How long do you want to ignore this user?
Is making national news today after the show he put on at the Futures Game. Even out here in DC they are talking about him.

Think he comes up in September? That's the one bright spot I see coming down the line. Can't wait until this guy becomes our version of Mike Trout.

Also for all the **** talking JD has been getting lately, he did draft this guy.

Are we still on the plan Nolan had us on, that would keep us in contention for 15 years, by building from within and not mortgaging the future? Granted this season is one of those you just cant do much about. Just wondering if we staying the course for the long term, or had we scratched that plan? I know Nolan did not want that lefthander traded, that we traded to the cubs for Garza last year. I know that did not sit well with him.

The 1yr/5yr/15yr plan I think was more JD than anything else.

I think the signing of Prince and and Choo was still in line with the plan -- it looked to keep us competitive offensively for at least another 3-4 years.

Problem is the Harrison, Perez and Fielder injuries suddenly threw a wrench in that. You can have a solid 1yr/5yr plan, but if 3 major components get injured it's tough to do anything about that -- the money is still on the books but you aren't getting production.

I do feel like this years injuries COMBINED with selling off some prospects to try and get better has led us to a place where we had no depth for this year. But I don;t blame the front office for going for a few trades to try and make a run. And really, how much would Justin Smoak and Mike Olt and Leury Garcia be helping us right now?

The biggest bonehead move JD made was letting Nellie go, but there was the PEDs thing, and hindsight is 20/20.

But yeh. Back to Gallo. The kid is going to be a beast. Just don't freak out and trade him too early like Chris Davis.

He didn't let Nellie go. He made the QO and Nellie declined and they turned arond and signed Choo.

You can question the decision to that if you'd like but JD didn't let Nelly go. He was had, afterall, on the extreme cheap by the O's on a 1 for 8mill deal.

The market wasn't there for a multiyear deal for Nelly from anyone.

Exactly. It gets spun by a lot of the media that Texas "let Nellie walk", but they made him a decent offer.

He wanted the big multi-year deal, so he didn't accept Texas' offer and they moved on. He then found out the big multi-year deal wasn't being offered by anyone and settled for the smaller deal from Baltimore.

Old Man Galloway will try and spin it differently in the paper and somehow try and claim Texas should have waited out the market on Cruz -- but then he'll turn around and bash a guy like Cuban for waiting out the market on a big name free agent and missing out on other opportunities.

With rotation in shambles, Cruz would have been wasted money.

Chris Davis since leaving:

31 GP: 2 HRs \ .276 (25-2011)
139GP: 33 HRs \ .270 (26-2012) vs 15HR\.275 by Moreland
160GP: 53 HRs \ .286
78 GP: 15 HRs \ .199 (28-2014)

2013 would have been great.

Davis is getting $10M this year. He has 1 more Arb year left.

Which do you bet he'll do next year? 53HRs\.286 or 20HRs\.199? How much do you think he'll get?

Davis has had some production, but I don't see him as anything more than an inconsistent crap shoot. We knew he could kill it. I was as much a supporter of his, as there was. I'd have taken him or left him. However, I don't covet him and wouldn't want the Rangers to sign him in FA.

Cruz - Same way. Someone will sign him to big money and eat most of it.

Tempting to bring up Gallo in 2014... but I think he needs to stay at AAA.

No reason to burn a year of eligibility... he needs to work on the Ks.

Gallo still needs to work on making contact. Tremendous explosiveness in his bat, but getting the bat on the ball needs a lot of development and would get ugly if he was brought to MLB anytime in the near future. 37% K rate in A ball last year which is absolutely astronomical. He improved it to 26% in A ball at the beginning of the year, but since his promotion to AA, it's at 42%. Crazy high. No need to rush him and turn him into a frustrated mess with no confidence.

You don't start his clock if he comes up in September
DallasAg 94

His clock starts once he is added to the 25, IIRC, by days. If he spends 180 days on the 25-man... he gets 1 year of service time.

This may not be a factor in terms of him getting full credit for 2014... but if he spends Sept and October on the 25... that would be in the neighborhood of 60 days.

If he isn't really ready until 2016... and they end up keeping him on the 25 for part of 2015... only 120 more days would be a year. So, if he were called up in July-Aug-Sept-Oct in 2015, you've now burned a full year.

Super Twos?

Rosters expand in September so he can be called up without being on the 25

Is it pretty likely he'll be with Frisco on August 2? I have a ticket to see them play in San Antonio.

Yes, basically a sure thing. He's there now, and Texas keeps top prospects in AA. AAA is used for org guys and MLB-ready plugins. No way he is Texas by Aug 2.

Gallo is great to follow in the minors right now. A few scouts say they have never seen as much power as he is showing in the lower levels. That includes Giancarlo coming up a few years ago. Hopefully he can make enough contact in the Big Leagues and realize his huge potential.

A big part of Nellie not coming back was that he wanted to play in the field and not just DH. He sucks out there and the Rangers weren't willing to promise much time outside of the DH spot.

100 Homers in 1003 minor league at bats.....and he's only 20.

405 SOs in 1003 ABs (1198 PAs)

Feast or famine.

20 @ AA is pretty good, even for a .249 BA.

Kris Bryant just passed Gallo for the MiLB HR lead. Playing at AAA.
