I heard things near my seat (let's just say that I didn't hear these from the average Joe fan) that he had been an A&M recruit or had a ranch nearby and thus came to games a la Lance Berkman (though Berkman went to Rice). What was the deal and why did he grace us with his presence?

I would have loved to meet him but at the time I was unable to be in the position to go talk to him.

He signed an LOI to play here but went pro instead.

Pretty sure AgRyan had his picture taken with Beckett at a football game in the past. Dont remember the details, though.

Beckett did sign a letter of intent and went pro. Realistically had no chance of ever stepping on the mound at Olsen as he had also prepared to go Juco as well. Still, his LOI could have been at almosy any D1 school and it was with us.

He does have a big ranch but I'm not sure where it is.

I played at Westfield HS and he pitched for our arch-rival Spring High. I played against him my junior season (his senior year).

Agsncws is correct. He signed a LOI with us but ended up signing with Blinn. He was a sure thing first round pick so it was really more of a negotiation tactic because if he went to Blinn he would be eligible for the draft again sooner than if he signed with a DI program (A&M).

hell of a pitcher. I went to spring hs, but he was just before my time by a year or so. But i remember going up to the HS when i was in middle school and watching him pitch...amazing pitcher.

Also a GREAT guy. My friend is good friends with his younger brother and they invited us to play poker with them one night. Not too sure if there is a cooler feeling than playing poker with a World Series MVP, haha.

So even if Clemens was at the game today, he still wasn't the best pitcher in the stadium.

Speaking of Clemens, did anyone hear him announce Marcus Griffin as the best tackler on the tu defense? Then about 2 or 3 plays later he was knocked on his butt by the J-Train. I laughed so hard at that.

yeah, i hated who they chose to announce the players last night. Clemens and South? are you serious?

I yelled at Beckett that he ruined my life as a Cubs fan in 2003, but then I thought it over and realized the Cubs usually screw things up by themselves.
