Has anyone else heard this idea? Let the lottery teams play a tourney to determine pick order. Single elimination.

I hate "tanking," but this doesn't seem like the way to get rid of it. OKC would likely have had the 1st pick this year. That's absurd.

We already have that. It's called the Eastern Conference.

Never know. Force the teams to play out the season and it's hard to say where they end up.

After missing the "main playoffs". Most teams would shut down any star who had the slightest injury for rest.

True but the fundamental flaw doesn't change. The strongest of the non-playoff teams would be drafting higher than those who truly need the talent.

Simmons has the entertaining as hell tournament idea which is similar. Giant single elimination for the last 2 spots in playoffs. Guarantee the top 2 picks to the next 2 teams stops tanking.

How is the worst team supposed to get any better if they're getting the 10th pick every year? Sometimes teams are just bad even without talking

Yeah, it would be a shame if Philadelphia, Minnesota, New York, Charlotte, and Sacramento were doomed to suck every year.

At some point, you have to have an incentive for these teams to win games.

I liked the idea that once a team is eliminated from the playoffs mathematically, every win benefits them more than a loss would.

Or have some unknown date on the calendar after the ASG (revealed after the season) that for non-playoff teams wins after that point count the same as losses, and losses count as wins.

That way, bad teams still get "credit" for being bad and losing, to a point, but if you are improving and trying to win, you should be rewarded, not penalized.

Why do an unweighted or a lot less weighted lottery?
