The Pelicans had 17 blocked shots last night. That's insane. Only 6 off the record for most ever recorded in a game. The two teams also had 118 rebounds. And they took almost 200 shots.

The problem, in the past, with the current Pelican roster hasn't just been youth, but they have had players that have had missed a lot of time with injury. They have a strong 5-6 top players, when healthy.

Davis
Eric Gordon
Tyreke
Jrue
Ryan Anderson
Asik

I have little to no confidence that at least 5 of those guys will play over 66 games this season.
They are a tough team to beat when healthy.

Only knock on him is a weak back-to-the-basket game. Other than that, he does everything else really, really well. I don't know if there is any other big man in the league right now that is better at positioning than he is.

Davis is a freak. Adding strength and a little but of bulk will make him even more of a handful (and allow him to continue his career after his athleticism begins to decline with age).

He'll have to develop a post game before he thinks about that.

Right now his athleticism allows him to always be in the right place at the right time. I swear his presence on the court during most plays is unreal. That's what his game is predicated on so far. Just amazing positioning. He affects pretty much every play.

Davis is more than capable of developing a solid post game. He's got a pretty good jumper and good touch around the rim. Work on a consistent hook shot and he's light years ahead of any other PF in the game.

I wish Davis were a spur. Imagine if we had traded someone to the Hornets for a guaranteed first round pick when they had cp3. What a duo and successor Davis/duncan would be.

The Pelicans are now 1-2, with both losses to Southwest Division opponents.

The Southwest Division is now 13-4, with all 4 losses to SW division opponents.


As tough as the Southwest Division has been in the past, this might be the toughest it has ever been.
