If LA was such a FA destination, why are they begging howard like this?

It's so hilarious how they are literally on their knees, trying to keep dwight howard with this stupid, cleveland-esqe begging campaign, when i thought the 17 rings (as one poster said in another thread) were enough that no Free Agent could ever entertain any other offers to join LA in 2013. They could play with Kobe and the ****ing idiot Mike D'Antoni and hope steve nash plays a combined 100 games over the next 2 seasons...

Why would he need to have a big ass meeting with kupchack, buss, D'antoni and kobe and steve nash? He's been playing with them for the past 10 months and has been in LA for the same period. Exactly what more do they need to tell him that they forgot to tell him prior to the season ending? That team is a burning boat with the horrific salary cap for the next 2 years (they're bringing kobe back at 15+ mil in 2014, you can belieeee dat), and hopefully he can get off the boat.

I wish i had access to twitter at work beacuse some of the photos of the billboards, big trucks with the "stayd12" that drive around LA hoping that he'll see it, etc, wreak of desperation

Because Dwight is the type of guy who likes that stuff.

I don't get why people **** on him during the FA process. Josh Smith is going through the same, meeting with people. no one is ****ting on him. Or Andre. Hell, Dwight has said nothing. Stop listening to rumors

For once in a long time they can't just sit back and say "Hey Dwight, C'mon man WE ARE THE LAKERS"

I agree with you. But I do think Dwight likes the attention too.

The reason Dwight is treated like this is due to his exit from Orlando.

Some of you are misinformed and a little over eager to throw dirt on our grave. The Lakers have MEGA cap space after next year showing again why there are the best run team in the league. Just remember they gave up a player who didn't score a single point last season to acquire Dwight when everyone said it couldn't happen. The Lakers are a meddling playoff team next year without D12 and maybe a 3 seed with him- that's what we call a down year. After that, **** gets real. We have cap to sign 2 max deals on top of Dwight or 3 w/out him. Lebron will be in play, along with Paul George, John Wall and Carmelo. Kobe might even take mid-level cash to get another ring.

yeah, Lebron would join the lakers... John wall, Paul George, come on down, even though you'll be signed to a contract by your teams anyways.

This guy is a sad sight

1. So why did the best run team in the league barely miss the lottery while being something like 19 million over the cap last season and next season? Why will they be paying Steve Nash 10mm plus the cost of a staffer to swaddle him in towels between each 3 minute stint on the court until 2015?

2. This year they were a borderline playoff team with Dwight. Nash and Bryant aren't getting any younger.

3. By definition, the max individual contract is 25-35% of the total team cap depending on how long the player has been in the league. I'd like to see the Lakers fill out a roster with 3 max deals and 6 million more dollars. The superfriend "trend" is about to fizzle because there aren't enough superstars willing to take a paycut for titles, there aren't enough good role players willing to play for peanuts, and there is only one Lebron James.

4. The Lakers aren't a very good basketball team right now. All signs point to a bottom third finish being more likely than a spot in the playoffs. Say hi to Cleveland for us.

Do we even know if Kobe will be able to play next season?

So much awesome could come from this
1) Dallas or LA gets Dwight
2) Houston gets Dwight but
a) They still finish outside the top 4 in the west
b) They get knocked out in the first round
c) Dallas or LA finishes higher in the West or makes it further in the playoffs

Wait, so the Lakers barely squeeked into the Playoffs this year on the last night of the regular season, but now they are going to be a #3 seed if Dwight resigns and Kobe is coming off an Achilles? LMFAO.

1. Injuries (though I agree the Nash signing was stupid)
2. Injuries
3. Nash is the only player signed as of this time next season. They have a ton of cap space, esp. if Kobe decides he wants to take a cut.
4. They are getting old and need to get young quick. If they stay completely healthy, they are as competitive as any team in the league. They weren't even remotely healthy for a single game this past season.

Say what you want but L.A. is as prime a destination as any in the league for various reasons. Regardless of what Dwight does, they'll be a force to be reckoned with in 2014-15 because the free agents, whoever they may be, WILL come.

This is what I want to know. All the names being thrown out aren't true free agents, they just could become one by executing Early Termination Options. What happens if they don't opt out? The 2014 free agent group could be really weak or really strong.
