Twin City Athletics, LLC is pleased to announce the creation of the Twin City United professional basketball organization, a founding franchise of the American Basketball League. Set to begin play in January 2013, the American Basketball League is the first league in the United States to play entirely under FIBA rules and will operate as a farm system to European club team affiliates. Steve Haney, the founder and CEO of the ABL has stated that “ABL franchises operating as the minor league farm club system to the European leagues and basketball federations is innovative and historical” and will “challenge the recent economic and rather public failings of current minor league basketball organizations”. With a 24 game season and regionally scheduled games, the ABL has developed a formula to maximize player exposure while providing a favorable environment for franchises to succeed. Visit www.abl-hoops.com for more information on the ABL.
A Bryan/College Station franchise has been awarded to Austin Pooley, who is the Owner and Team President of Twin City United. The Citizens, as they will be known, will compete in the Lonestar Conference against teams from San Antonio, Boerne, Corpus Christi, San Marcos, and Sugarland. The team will consist of former Aggie players, former Brazos Valley high school standouts, and players recruited from the state of Texas. “The goal of Twin City United is to provide our athletes with all the tools necessary to achieve their dreams” stated Pooley, “but more importantly the goal is to organize the basketball community in Bryan/College Station so that the youth have an even greater opportunity for success. With our free clinics, our summer league, our elite travel teams, and our academic instruction, we want to give athletes of all ages the best possible chance of success.” Wanting to take care of the fans as well, all season ticket holders are automatically given membership to the Citizen’s Army supporters group, who will elect a representative to sit on United’s Board of Directors. Recently, Twin City United has hired Logan Lee, a former A&M basketball player, to become General Manager of the team. Tickets will go on sale December 1st, 2012.
