If we trade lowry and cant resign dragic, would you be interested in rockets making a run at Lin?

Absolutely, why not? He would be popular to the Asian market in Houston who was very prevalent during Yao's time in Houston. Since Yao's departure, the Asian fanbase has dwindled. He would be a solid addition; however, we are not trading Lowry unless Dragic resigns. So the odds of going after him is about 1%.

Would the Chinese fan base be cool with a Taiwanese player? Don't they hate each other? Or is it cool because they are close enough?

Notice I said "Asians" not just Chinese.

Right, but The strong fan base is Chinese. Heck, we still have Chinese advertisers in the Toyota Center and Chinese media covering every game.

But all Asians are dying for a young star. The Chinese media was all over Lin when he was with the Knicks. So it doesn't matter regarding politics on this side of the pond.

SR610: Point guard Jeremy Lin will reportedly meet with Rockets general manager Daryl Morey in Houston on Wednesday. http://cbsloc.al/Lvny7j

I'd rather have him than nothing. I'd prefer Dragic, just think he's a better player.

I hope we sign Lin and everyone else in the NBA from Asia. Not even remotely joking.

meh, he had a good partial season (can he keep it up?) but he's awful on defense. if they can't dump martin that would be quite possibly the worst defensive back court in the history of organized basketball

I just want to keep Lowry. He's a great player for the money we are paying him and I'd only move him for a star player.

Given that the Rockets just let Lee go, I would suspect that they are going to make a hard push for Gordon. If that is the case, I expect Lowery to be gone.

Also, it sounds like the Rockets are expected to make an offer to Lin tomorrow. We will see if he signs the offer sheet and the in turn, see if the Knicks match. If the Knicks get Nash though, I would expect Linsanity to show up in Houston.

they just offered him 4 years/40 million

nice move...lol

No offer has been made yet. That report was incorrect per Jonathan Feigen.

But, I would be fine with Houston offering Lin. He averaged 19.5 and 8 as the starter for the Knicks last year. Those are solid stats.

Is that 8 assists or turnovers?

RT-

That is a fair concern, but something he seemed to improve upon as he was going. His turnover average was a shade under 5 a game.

Part of his market value is going to be his appeal to asian markets and so which ever team picks him will wind up paying more to him than they would a non-Asian player of his caliber. If the owner is willing to pay extra in order to cash in on the marketability returns and is willing to pay that premium in addition to what he would have spent on the payroll anyway, then I'm fine with this decision as a fan. If he's not going to raise his total payroll to cover the extra cost, then I don't like this signing as a fan because it means fewer resources will be devoted to the other players. After all, the fans aren't getting any of the marketing returns. We don't want to see our team gutted just so the owner can line his pocket.

Really, what I'd like to see and what should happen is the owner should pick Lin up, take the extra returns from Chinese jersey sales and whatnot, and expand his/her payroll with some of those proceeds.

No matter how Lin turns out, this signing could have very good or very bad results for fans.

Only is we cant resign Drag. But not at 10M per year for a turn over machine.....there are better options I'm sure for cheaper.

Gordon signed with the Suns, so he's not an option. Best case scenario for the Rockets is if Lin signs with the Mavs and the Knicks sign Nash. Then maybe we can get Dragic back in the fold and trade Lowry to the Raptors for their 2013 1st (which will likely be top 10 or maybe even top 7/8, probably have to give them top 3 or top 5 protection).

The Houston Rockets plan to offer a contract to New York Knicks guard Jeremy Lin on Wednesday, according to a report by The New York Post.

The Post, citing a league source, reports the Rockets will offer Lin a backloaded deal worth roughly $30 million. According to the same source, the deal would pay Lin $5 million in the first season, $5.2 million in the second season, and then increase to as much as $10 million per year in the third and fourth seasons.

Yes, from the same article:
quote:
While both Lin and the Knicks are hoping for a reunion, sources have told ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard that if any clubs offer Lin a backloaded contract that pays him an eight-figure salary in the third and fourth years, the Knicks could be hesitant to match the offer.

With the new collective bargaining agreement employing a more punitive luxury tax beginning in the 2013-14 season, the Knicks are concerned about the financial ramifications of such a deal.

HotardAg07
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The Rockets are not offering Lin more than Dragic got.

Dragic wanted to go somewhere where he was going to be the main starting point guard and wasn't excited about coexisting with Kyle Lowry.
