Not just Dirk. Jason Kidd wins his first championship at age 38 and cemented his HOF status. Shawn Marion had one of the best defensive post seasons ever and revived a career that I thought was basically over after he left Phoenix. JJ Barea OS easy to cheer for and he dominated the last two games. Hell, even Brian Cardinal had a good series. Tyson Chandler made a huge difference in his Mavs team and was excellent all year. Rick Carlisle might just be the best coach in the NBA right now. Mark Cuban was actually graceful in victory and his positive traits shone through, like his true fanhood and his care for his players.

I think the average fan wasn't just cheering for the Mavs because they were playing the Heat. I think they are genuinely easy to cheer for

Agree 100%. It's more than just individuals though. We're talking about doing things the right way. Hard work vs. natural athleticism. Loyalty vs. "playing with friends". Humbleness vs. showoffs. Grit vs. entitlement. Team concept vs. "the big 3".

Honestly, this was a great Finals. For me, there are aspects of sports that reflect life in general. It was nice to see a team rewarded for doing it "the right way".

Most of the whole United States was pulling for the Mav's. Looked like all of Germany was behind Dirk as well.

Dirk made some fans in this series. The guy completed turned around what everyone thought of him before this year. All of the conventional wisdom about him is gone.

That's a great story.

But the biggest is the Heat getting beat. Almost everything about the win and the Mavs looks better because of who they played.

Norm Hitzges on the Ticket broke down the number of guys on this team who have gotten close but never won the title, and this was their last chance more than likely. Pretty amazing how this old group worked together to beat Goliath, couldn't have been scripted any better.

Bullcrap [/SM]....this finals was all about butthurt over LeBron, DWade, and Bosh teaming up, fueled by jealousy....ask Kevin Garnett how staying in a place that had no intention of getting you support worked out. LeBron shouldn't have done "the decision", nor should they have had the rock concert press conference, but get over it. Every single NBA star is/was a arrogant pompass ass, even MJ (remember Kobe threated to leave LA if they didn't get help).

Oh and Jordan is the greatest to ever play the game....that will never change.

Jason Kidd is an admitted wife beater, but some how he gets a pass. Jason Terry is a thug, so is Stevenson.

The only player on the Mavs that is a feel good story and deserves anything is Dirk. We will never see a 7-footer who can play under the rim with such dominance....oh and you have to cover him on the three point line because he can drill those too. He deserved a title and I was rooting for him. Cuban deserved a title too because he was putting everything into winning and not making money with the team.

The public was rooting against the Heat, not for Dallas.
