Welcome to all things La Liga. Hopefully we can keep this up to date throughout the season.

Returning Champs Real Madrid kicked things off with a 2-nil win over Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup.

Fede Valverde scored the winner.

Mbappe got his first Real Madrid goal with an assist from Bellingham.

Luka Modric picks up his 27th club trophy with Real Madrid making him the winningest player in Real Madrid history. Add in his time at Tottenham and he has an unbelievable 27 club trophies in his career.

It is pretty wild how the league has its own rules that are much more onerous than the rest of Europe. But, it's probably a good thing in the long term in order to keep clubs healthy.

Thanks for starting this thread! Really enjoy LaLiga.

I'll be interested to see how Julian Alvarez incorporates into Atltico. As well as some of their other signings.

My adopted team for the year, Celta Vigo, picked up a nice win against Alaves putting them at the top of the table (for now). New coach, some new players but same Iago Aspas getting on the board.

Mallorca ties Madrid 1-1 to start the season. Pretty interesting that various names known to Americans have an ownership stake in Mallorca: Steve Nash, Steve Kerr and Stuart Holden.

Yeah was a wild flailing tackle at the end and I get sending him off, though that isn't Mendy's style or reputation. Maffeo on vini's calf was much closer to what I would have considered egregious given his personal history with vini and that he didn't come close.

We let them possess a lot in the second half and didn't win the ball to apply consistent pressure in the end.

Couple reasons why I picked them. Mom's grandparents all hailed from Galicia. Deportivo has been abysmal for over a decade, and at least Vigo is in the first division. Second reason - I watched the LaLiga special on Netflix and the episode with Celta was fantastic. Also, that pre-game anthem that C. Tangana came up with for the 100 year anniversary of the club was an absolute banger!!! So they gained my support at least for a season.

Respect for sure. It's easy to be a fan of big clubs if you've never been somewhere or have no connections.

You should also definitely root for Lucas Perez who left greener pastures to help depor gain promotion.

Would love it for Depor to make a comeback. I remember those late 90s early 2000 teams were a threat each year.

Yeah undoubtedly they are screwing a lot of things up… but the outrage out there about this being free really shows me how many people don't understand how transfers work.

No fee raises the chance that someone will be willing to pay him a salary that he's willing to leave for… otherwise they can't make him leave and they're stuck with him on their books.

What a game and what an absolute dumb mistake by the Celta defender with 30 seconds left to play? Celta was so close to have 9 pts in 3 games. Damn lol.

Trash Atleti fans gift AM a draw vs. RM. Eight mins added time after crowd throws objects at Courtois, AM fumbles in a goal for 1-1. Fans were encouraged to wear masks to avoid punishment. Stay classy, losers. And Llorente should be suspended several games.

They're one of a small list of clubs that I'll always root against. And the only one in La Liga (though admittedly I only pay attention to the ones that frequently make UEFA competitions).

Trash fans and trash coach. Nasty players.
