"Do" or "Should"? I answered for "do", but my "should" answer would be different.

He should be fired along with the folks in USSF that re-hired him.

Top to bottom, they're all inept. Nothing is going to change.

Maybe I'm Lucy but I actually think they do. I also think that 95% of the fanbase won't like whoever they hire and in 2026, we'll see another "Should we fire _____?" thread.

I still doubt USSF has the guts to cut him loose but GB looked like a dead man walking at the end of the game last night.

Also, this squad of players isn't off the hook for this fiasco either. They and GB have put together some absolute stinkers over the past several months. Maybe they've been trying to get him fired (again)? I still think this is one of the most talented groups we've ever had (minus some big positional holes) but their giveadamn is far too low.

Idk, the amount of media backlash this go round is pretty high. Wasn't like this after the WC. The team is rightfully getting hammered.

US soccer gets exactly the level of success that they commit themselves to. Which is none at all. They pat themselves on the back for beating a crap Mexico team. Win trophies against the same teams they play all of the time.

There is no real ambition except to hand out favors to cronies.

I'll disagree with you on that. The same people snagged Emma Hayes for the WNT.

So are they going to pay $4M for the next men's coach? If not, they aren't getting an Emma. And if they do, then what do they do on Emma's pay. Does she also get $4M?
oh no

Never should have re-hired Greggg, IMO. which I thought was a clue that we are broke. ...but now, almost no choice. Need to go in another direction.

They ponied up the money to get Hayes so they aren't inept is all I'm saying.

Berhalter is already getting paid in in the 2nd tier of National Team coaches. Do we need to go up to $4M? Not sure about that.

If he doesnt go, I'll feel pretty defeated.

It's obviously not working, and we have time to make a change. No change, feels like we're throwing in the towel for 2026.

But knowing USSF, we'll fire him and take 8 months to make a decision on the next guy.

We paid Hayes because we needed to to get her to take the job. She's literally one of the best in the world. As far as I know, equal pay between coaches isn't something that's mandated or even formalized by any contractual documentation. I don't think we even know the exact figure Hayes is receiving yet. (Happy to be proven wrong on any of this.)

That to say, there's nothing to the "we can't afford a good, proven men's head coach." We have plenty of money. We're not getting our money's worth currently with GB. We don't have to immediately give Emma Hayes a raise if we sign a men's coach for $2 mil or more. We're way way way ahead of the curve internationally when it comes to more equal compensation for women's coaches and players. There may be a little push back for over-spending on a men's coach, but if that's what has to be done, then that's what needs to happen.

Always funny to see the cycles of "we need an American coach" and "we need an international coach" return. It's a weird dynamic for evaluating coaching. Good coaches in 2024 can be found both here and abroad. Can you build a squad? Can you scout for talent? Can you teach a system of play?

I would approach Rangnick simply because of what Austria has looked like this tournament. He may not want to leave but I would approach him.

Austria has similar talent to the US and he has them playing beautifully right now. Surprise of the Euro tournament for me.

We have gone nowhere since 2018, why would you think we don't need a top coach? Something different has to be done, not more of the same mediocrity.

So you think all the pandering of paying the men's and women's coach the same was just political bs? I don't think so. They have proven to make poor decisions (Iike Gregg) based on everything but the business of being great.

First let me reiterate, I have zero faith in US Soccer in doing anything right (outside of filling their own pockets).

But for all of the people saying, "there's not enough time. Not enough real games to change managers before the WC." I point to Morocco 2022. Changed managers 3 months before the tournament started. Won their group. Beat Spain and Portugal. Only lost to France in the semis. So I don't want to hear anyone shoveling that bull*****

That's a great point. Over the last 3 decades that I've been following soccer, there's a lot of teams that change coaches right before a tournament and do just fine. 18 months to prepare is plenty of time. Make the change USSF!
