can someone who's a soccer person please explain to me why this chick is supposedly so good? she looks incredibly slow and doesnt seem to have great ball skills. looks completely overrated to me. .. am i missing something?

She is a big tall presence in the box that, in her prime and healthy, was really good. Unfortunately, injuries and age are catching up to her which is why she seems to be a step slow all the time. Saying that, if she can get a good cross in the box she can still be deadly.
She's a different type of player, whose skill set may not seem particularly exceptional, but said skills and style are not easily matched by most defenders.
Think a good post player on a court full of point guards.

brian mcbride is terrible these days
One bad ass thing she did was in the 119 minute. Check your DVR. She spotted the ball for the Brazilian goalie so she wouldn't take her sweet @ss time! Wambach was clutch today and has been for quite some time.
Realist, I don't think anyone can really argue that she hasn't been playing up to her best in this past year (more goals in the last two games than in the 11-12 months prior, or something to that effect). But I think you see now why she is the go-to player for the USWNT.
