She's ugly, but she plays.

$700. Pickup in Houston or Huntsville. Domestic shipping available at buyer's expense.

I'm selling a used Bach Elkhart 42BO manufactured in late 1994 or early 1995 (s/n 1194xx). It's perfect for a high school or college student step-up or backup horn at half the cost of one that looks pretty. Comes with a Protec Max case. No mouthpiece.

PROS: This horn plays really well, despite its cosmetic issues. The slide is pretty fast and I had no issues when I used this as a backup, although there is some minor slide noise a professional cleaning and good lube job can probably take care of. The valve is fast and is in excellent condition. Tuning slides move freely. I am willing to have it professionally cleaned and serviced at the buyer's expense (approximately $140).

CONS: It was previously a school horn that got stored in a case that got wet at some point before I acquired it, so there is lacquer spotting and pitting in the brass and nickel across the entire horn. It has very significant lacquer loss. Only a couple small patches of lacquer remain on the inside of the bell (I didn't feel like stripping the rest of it). The outside of the bell stem and flare are not lacquered. There are also some scratches on the bell and evidence of a small crease repair on the edge of the bell. There are some small dents on the bell stem above the logo that do not affect playability. Slide crook bumper is bent. The case has seen better days, but works just fine.

SPECS (from the manufacturer):
.547" large bore
8-1/2" one-piece hand-hammered yellow brass bell
Open wrap F attachment with standard rotor valve
Yellow brass outer slide

Looks like it would make a good marching horn.
