Hello everyone!
Progressive can't total my Black 2017 F150 due to Texas law, but they cut some checks that are large but short of the cost to repair my vehicle. I'd rather not have to take the truck in to a body shop and have them hold it for weeks, so with BOA permission, I will be cashing the checks and selling the truck at a large discount and buying a new one.
In case your interested in my logic, Texas requires the repairs to exceed the ACV to total a vehicle. I also don't have rental on my insurance and even though we are in a pandemic, the idea of not having a truck for 4+ weeks is not appealing for me.
The truck has about 63,000 miles. I've driven from Dallas to New Mexico, Colorado, and South Texas many times so a lot of the miles are highway miles.
The truck is RWD with a 5.0 V8.
I just had a $700 brake job, tire rotation, synthetic oil change, and all filters replaced one week before the storm which occurred last month in Colorado Springs. I have not had any mechanical issues but the manifold was replaced under warranty when a check engine light went on. The prior gasket was leaking and caused some additional emissions.
I replaced the OEM wheels for the nicer F150 wheels. The rest of the vehicle is stock.
It has a cloth interior with some minor wear.
As for the damage, the roof and hood are totaled - but if you asked Progressive they would just say the hood. Those items will need to be replaced if you want it to be perfect. One fender might need to be replaced, but the rest of the vehicle is fixable with dent repair. One door might have to be painted because the impacts cracked the paint in the size of a dime. I was rear ended a few days after sustaining hail damage but the bumper damage is minimal (I have had the WORST luck the past 30 days). The windshield should be fine, no cracks, but there are impact markings. The plastics on one side mirror and near the hood had impacts and are cracked or broken.
I'm the second owner. I've had it for two years. I bought it used at James Wood Autopark with 27K miles. The prior owner listed it as a rental for tax reasons, and as I bought a 2017 in 2017 with 27K miles, they were fast highway miles - not city traffic. It was in perfect condition with a very strong engine so I do not believe it was abused.
If the truck was in perfect condition I'd imagine it would fetch $25K so I'd like to get $15K for it, which is a 40% discount.. The dealership body shop in Town East Ford said there is $12K of damage but if you went to another body shop or just repaired the hood and roof yourself from salvaged vehicles or what's available online you could save a lot. I would imagine that a cash only auto repair place could get this done for a lot less than $12K. One side of the truck only has a few impacts and the bed of the truck has rhino so it was spared. The roof and the hood took the largest licks.
