Yell practice mini-pushups?

Please help me with a couple clueless questions! I had guests with me at the game this weekend and was unable to answer these for them.

--Are the junior yell leaders doing 2,008 pushups down there on the field before Yell starts? My buddies asked me why the pushups were so tiny (it does look, er, unfortunate). They've probably been doing this forever and I'm just so old I forgot.

--We learned one yell leader's a non-reg. How common is that in recent years? (insert whoop for Ronnie '94, the first non-reg I knew to make it)

and while I'm at it, what is a class set these days -- is it 107 pushups, etc.? I used to wonder how they'd handle this back when we were all living in fear of the Y2K bug.

Muchas gracias and BTHON!

I don't know how many pushups they are doing. But here's what I can tell you:

There is 1 non-reg yell leader. THe last one was Boo Boo who was a Yell Leader for the Fall '01 season.

A class set is 107 pushups for the seniors, 108 for the juniors. When the class of 2049 is here, their class set will be 149 pushups. The class of 2050 will have a class set of 50 pushups. THe numbers roll over at the 50 mark, to keep the classes with low year #s from being weak. If the class of 2000 had a class set of 0 pushups, they would have been pusses.

thank you, T! Yeah, the wimp factor is exactly why I was wondering about the class set -- I still wouldn't want to be the fish who's doing 50 while his sophomores are doing 149? (either way, I'll be a happy 77-year-old Ag if the Aggies of 2049 are similar enough to have this problem!)

no verdict on why or how many they actually do, put from a cadet's standpoint, those "little" pushups are actually quite a big crap-out. they look harmless enough, but are actually pretty tough. don't know if it helps, but thats all i know on the subject

they just push during the songs...it doesn't matter how many. once the band finishes they do 12 more for the team. it is a pretty big crapout, try it if you dont believe me

In my six years at A&M, there was only one non-reg yell leader (Boo Boo).

Aha! So they push as long as the band plays, then another 12. I'll pass that along to my buddies (along with the part about it not being easy! Though that many of anything doesn't look like fun)

Also interesting to know about the non-regs. So it's still pretty rare, huh? As I recall Ronnie made it because practically everybody on Northside got out to vote for him.

thanks all!!
