my grandfather was on the track team at a&m in the 1950s and he had two lettermen jackets. my grandmother had them professionally cleaned and put in large shadow boxes for her grandsons that went to a&m. pretty cool....i am assuming since the track team had jackets the other sports teams did as well.
my old man has letter sweaters from the 60's, said you had to pay for a jacket unless you were on the football team (can't remember but he might have said the basketball and baseball teams also got free jackets).
You know the way to grandma's house! R.I.P. Buddy D
we still get gifts for lettering...but they aren't sweaters or jackets any more...ive gotten a watch and an aTm blanket. dunno yet what the jr and sr letter awards are
They called it "The Men Who Wear the T"(check old Aggielands and Longhorns), white cardigan sweater, maroon block T on left pocket. Some football players were still wearing them in the Fall of '78.Lots of ct's and q's wore them
The Band sweaters are presented to the band juniors by the Band and the Texas Aggie Band Association, which pays for the sweaters. They are authorized wear with the cadet uniform... they can also be worn with civilian clothes, but hardly ever are.
I love my BQ sweater! Its one of the last Old Army things we have left in the Corps. Kind of links you with the old Ags that you get to meet in the TABA.
