OK, so I have not yet seen the Rose Bowl. While the game was being played, I was on board a trans-Atlantic flight on business. I recorded the game so I could watch it when I got home Saturday afternoon, but as (bad)luck would have it, someone on the plane checked his palm pilot right after the plane landed and announced it to everyone. Since that time, I have come to learn that it was a stellar, if not magical, performance by VY.

So, instead of ignoring the media when I got back to Houston, I instead tuned into the two sports ratio stations: 610 AM and 790 AM. That was Saturday afternoon. I've been listening here and there to those stations since then until now (It's just after noon on Monday). Not once...not even ONCE...have I heard the following terms on either of these stations:

"Mack Brown"
"UT"
"University of Texas"
"Texas defense/offense"
"[Insert t.u. player name here]"
or any other collection of words/names that would indicate they are talking about the t.u. football team in some way

I'm not exaggerating here. NOT EVEN ONCE since I returned, in the time I've listened to the radio or seen coverage on TV, has ANYone said anything other than "Vince Young".

Makes it seem as though t.u. won because of, and ONLY because of, Vince Young.

(I'm sorry, I did hear "Mack Brown" uttered once...it followed the phrase "Vince Young was able to win the game ins pite of..." Really, I'm not kidding)

I'm not buying it though. Sure, Texas is unlikely to run the table next year w/o Vince, and their preseason ranking may even suffer with an unknown at QB (Colt McCoy??). But they'll be good. Good enough to beat us, OU, maybe even OSU. Time will tell...

put it this way:

without young texas doesn't beat usc and they most likely don't beak ohio st. thus, no nc.

Texas will still be darn good next season, but on their final drive Vince Young really did single-handedly beat USC.

This is my point. Will McCoy ever pull off something comparable? NO.

There are very few special players like VY, therefore I doubt very few players could have pulled off what Young did.

Will USC be comparable next season with a Leinart / Bush / White backfield. Ummm, no.

A quarterback **NEVER** wins a game single-handedly. He may not get the assistance from other offensive position players that he wants, but he **CANNOT** do it without solid protection from the offensive line.

I made a comment the other day to the same effect. I was amazed at Young's ability, but I also thought it unfair that no one got credit for the win. It was truly a team effort. And I cannot remember the last time I saw such a dominating performance out of an o-line.

***AG TAG*** (Since staff is apparently never going to give it, I'll grant it myself.)

JazzAg - my opinion of the Rose Bowl was the same as my opinion of tu's game earlier this year against Ohio State - specifically, that the tu offensive line deserves the overwhelming majority of the credit and not VY.

However, I have accepted my role as being in the vast MINORITY a long time ago. Everyone else sees something I don't, which is fine.

More importantly, did you kick that jackhole in the nuts for giving the score?

Another thought on this - I also see the Young phenomenon and media focus as being next year's motivational factor for Brown.
[/Brown to team] "Now that Vince is gone, nobody thinks we have a chance. I'm going to let you guys decide on how we're going to respond."

whether VY deserves the attention or not (I think he does, although, not this much...), his teammates helped out quite a bit, especially their Defense, vastly overlooked.

He sure is enjoying it though.

I saw an o-line just as good if not better than Texas' on the same field. USC's to me was much more impressive. If you consider the d-line that USC played against versus the d-line that Texas played against, USC's line played better.

OK, your in HOUSTON, the Texans have the first pic in the draft. VY announces he is coming out early, and he is a local product.

Plus you have most of Houston declaring they will throw themselves off the roof of the astrodomeif they don't pick VY.

What in the hell do you expect them to be talking out. The Astros signing some middle relief left hander.

Also, 610 was non-stop tu all day thurday and friday. Then again, there "sip10 radio" every freaking day.

What bothers me is that the local sports radio will not rationally discuss the pros and cons of drafting Bush over Young, trading down, etc.

Old and AgKJ are dead on. O-line was exceptional. He had time to not only look for receivers but to decide whether to run or not. Check out Blaylocks block on the blitzing DB #39 on the game clinching TD. Pancake and then some.

Put it this way...without the best Offensive Line in College Football history, everyone would be discussing which round radio would be drafted in if he decided to come out early!
