i have always liked KJ, and i respect him immensely as one of the greats. but it was quite obvious last night that there is a reason he's not doing games on a regular basis nationally.

he needs to hang it up. he had so many missed calls last night, and so many things that he was just completely wrong about. the worst was when he wondered aloud why the clock wasn't running on the two minute conversion.

its time to hang it up Keith.

I though Keith did a fine job calling the game...not great..but not bad either

I rather listen to Keith Jackson rather than Musberger anyday.

Keith Jackson has been off for about 3-4 years. But for him being the "voice of college football," his calls are irritating because they are so riddled with errors.

Whoa, Nellie. What's a "two minute conversion?"

Also what is a "Times Out" He said that only 6 or 7 times.

agracer:

i believe you conveniently left of my 't' from the first "the" in that statement.

and for the record, i too would rather listen to an errorful KJ over dumbas*Burger anyday.

Try again...the "t" doesn't matter genius!

Is this something new for the BCS?

Still better than Cheeseburger any day.

the funniest part was in the second quarter when Carroll said something to the backup QB Booty, and Jackson mentioned that he might have told him to get ready to go in. this was after Leinart had stunk it up some but before he took the big hit near the end of the half.

Jackson was also pretty damn lost at the end of the 3rd quarter.

My favorite was when he started cheering for USC defense. TACKLE< TACKLE< TACKLE. It was the first Texas drive.

Could he have kissed USC's ass any more than he did last night?

actually my favorite was when fouts started off the thing with "we've got two heavy weights who are strapped up...it's time to get it on"

i halfway expected him to follow that up with "huuuuuuulets get readdy to RUUUUUMBBLLLE!!"

Yeah, he's getting a tad bit old, but I'd rather him than Musberger anyday. Still though, I'd rather hear a dog pass some bad cheese than even look at Musberger's mouth move while the TV is on mute.

Actually his biggest gaffe was when both announcers pulled the misused "ground can't cause a fumble" rule to say that t.u. should've been given the ball when the DB caught it in mid-air, fell on his back, and the ball came loose. Any idiot knows that when you catch a ball in mid-air, you have to maintain possession when you hit the ground. inexcusable lack of knowledge of the rules.

Somebody must've told Musberger that they were getting tired of his "all hype and no insight" routine. He seemed to point out every three minutes what he was seeing on the tapes of the players (Orange Bowl?)...as if he's doing us a great favor by watching film - isn't that supposed to be part of the job???

Explain Limas Sweed's touchdown catch at Ohio State, then.

I like what he said about VY - he quoted an unnamed defensive coach - "That boy don't have any handles" (translation : it is hard to tackle that particular football player)

KJ's gaffs paled in comparison to Fouts somehow working a Harry Potter reference into the game. "This is just a game of quidditch to Reggie Bush. He was on his broom". Pitiful.

i'll take keith jackson like he is right now any day of the week w/o hesitation over 99% of the broadcasters in the biz.

the guy is still a legend in my book and the stuff he missed, oddly enough, was obvious like qtrs ending, missed xp's, etc.

I've always despised Keith Jackson's style - the "who Nellie" style makes me puke.

It was funny when Dan Fouts called Pete Carroll a "defensive genius" and then tu proceeded to march down the field.

Agree. I like KJ and have always enjoyed his announcing games, but last night he was not impressive. Dan Fouts was excellent with his input. Especially when he called RB's lateral a "bonehead" play...which is certainly was! I think it was the turning point in the game for usc.

agncs, this is crazy i know, but you can actually call the right scheme and have a player like VY run roughshot....

stick to trashing torbush.

drk, i seriously think you're a woman.

Sip,

I don't have video on hand, but I do know the rule. The ground can't cause a fumble, but it CAN cause an incompletion. If you wanna argue a specific play, fine, but don't argue the rule - you'll lose.

94chem,

I think that may only be in the nfl where the player has to maintain possession after contacting the ground, but I am not quite sure.

Keith Jackson personifies the “storied programs” vs. “upstart whipper-snapper programs” mentality that I despise. If I had a nickel for every time he has said “you can’t do that against the big boys” referring to some mistake that a “human team” has made in a game against one of his beloved “big boys”. He thinks football is Penn State, Nebraska, USC, Alabama (and a few others) against all the other Division 2 teams that have the gall to field a team.

Not to mention the ridiculous Dan Rather-esqe quips and one liners – makes me barf. I’ll take Mussburger over Jackson any day (and anyone else over either).

Is Keith the most flawless announcer? No. Does he make mistakes? Yes. But I'm going to have to agree with The Sports Guy:

quote:
11:40 -- Since I firmly believe Marv Albert should do every big NBA game, Pat Summerall every big NFL game and Keith Jackson every big college football game, no matter how old they are, and only because it feels like a bigger game when any of them is involved, I feel totally comfortable saying this: Listening to Jackson is like driving with my mother at night. In other words, maybe he can't really see anymore, and he might drive over a few curbs, and maybe he'll even send a pedestrian diving behind a parking meter ... but it's always exciting, and you always get home safely in the end.

He's Keith. He and his voice are synonymous with college football, I'll watch games that I don't care anything about just to hear him call it.

In all of our complaining about one of the best college football broadcasters of all time making a few mistakes we have fogotten about the serious broadcasting problems on the Texas Aggie Radio Network!
