please debate who was better, in both baseball and football. Because it really matters if an Aggie QB is better than a Longhorn QB, and i just cannot get enough threads about this.

Tough call Aggie. I'd say both of them washed out of both sports in equally underwhelming fashion.

Grainger did make it to the bigs with KC. Don't know about Morenz.

After he lost his job to James Brown in '94, Shea quit to play minor league baseball. He married into a bunch of $$$, from something I saw a few years ago.

For the record, this thread had sarcasm all over it.

But I would give Granger the nod here on both accounts. He beat Stanford and LSU at least.

I know Shea got $1 million from the Yanks, never made it to MLB, went and got an Ivy League MBA and a sweet job as an investment banker.

He later married a girl from one of the richest families in our state. Oh, and she's extremely hot.

Randy Watson -
I heard he married Matt Cherry. OK, just kidding.

the answer is pullig. <G>

i remember when morenz got to UT there was an article where bohls or someone wrote (tongue-in-cheek) that if you asked morenz to throw a 60 yard spiral he would ask you if you wanted it to land laces up or down................

in a couple of years will it come down to colt mccoy vs. mcgee???

Morenz actually got his MBA from Michigan, but no doubt he landed on his feet well after the disappointment of losing the QB job to James Brown. Morenz married Corby Robertson's daughter, who he met at UT. Big oil bucks. Not like Morenz really needs his wife's money, though. He got a nice signing bonus from the Yankees, and Morenz was (is) a bright, well-spoken young man.

I thought Morenz married Mary Lou Retton? Or am I thinking of another mediocre t.u. QB and/or gymnast?

Burdizzo, you're thinking of Shannon Kelley.

Wasn't Morenz supposed to be the next Mickey Mantle?

MBA from Michigan. Congratulations. I hope all former Aggie players do as well for themselves.

granger was one of the more consistent ag qb's of all time. right behind brandon stewart, randy mccown, vance smith, colby freeman, and all the other greats.

granger hands down!!!

I thought Morenz liked to tag slump-busters.

Shea did a bit less overall in both sports than did Granger. I am glad to hear he is doing great and making the most of his degrees and career outside of football.

Does anyone know what happened to Granger?
Bocephus

Not even comparable. Granger actually made the bigs. Was a much better college player in both football and baseball also.

Yeah, like Kip Corrington.

I believe Jeff Granger was drafted in the MLB 1st round (#5 overall pick)

And I think Jeff's career record as an aggie starting QB was 8-1. (8-0 in 1992, 0-1 in 1991)

The 92 Stanford win was not pretty, but the Cardinal did finish that year in the top 10 of the AP poll, so that was a quality win. Jeff also ended A&M's losing streak in Baton Rouge the following week. (correction noted)

Morenz's record as a starting QB for UT is definitely much worse.

so far, nothing mentioned regarding Shea Morenz justifies a thread concerning him lasting this long.
Burdizzo
How long do you want to ignore this user?
That losing streak in Baton Rouge went all the way back to 1986.

Well, to the best of my knowledge, Granger was so bad in that game that every aggie QB played and Pullig was actually the one that finished it.

Burdizzo,

I just looked up Kip Corrington.

WOw. I hope all of our players look up to him.

My first A&M v tu baseball game and morenz is warming up along the first base line and one of the raggies yells "Shea Morenz, that sounds like a cheap french restaraunt." Thats the humor the students are missing now.

And nothing like watching Granger one-hop passes to the receivers.
AG1996
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Morenz threw a much prettier INT.
W
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Incorrect horn. Granger came back into the game in the 4th quarter and directed the offense to the 10 points that won the game, 10-7.

While RC's losing streak in Baton Rouge was only 3 games...those were some incredibly frustrating 3 games.

As if the losses to LSU prior to that were not?

morenz threw a duck to dennis allen in the endzone late in the 1993 Texas/Texas A&M game. A&M won 18-9 but UT was trailing 15-9 or something like that before going for it on like 4th & 2 around the 5. mackovic called basically the same play that became famous against nebraska but to the right and to TE steve bradley. it was a horrible pass and allen stepped in front of that to seal the win.
