How long has it been since we have had this much continuity in the coaching staff?

I can't even remeber the last time we went for 3 seasons with basically the same people top to bottom.

The team has the sytems down, and the personalities have not changed who are giving the instruction.

I haven't seen this discussed on here specifically. Hard to put a value on this factor, but how much does this help?

I'm as happy about this as anything else.

Uhh probably cause nobody wants any of our coaches. getting coaches hired away isn't a bad thing, it means they are doing a good job, and can get a higher position elsewhere...

Looking on the bright side of life, I couldn't agree more how nice it is now to finally have a coaching team. We shuffled coaches for fourteen years! I'd like to challenge someone to list all of our offensive and defensive coordinators over RC's tenure in one post, UN-EDITED.

Hope you're not trying to imply that this was all RC's fault. Many left for career enhancing opportunities and for better pay.

No doubt there's an advantage for coaching continuity, especially if they're all good coaches and bring forth great recruits and wins. It's all about wins and the verdict is still out for our current group.

I think it is our Athletic Department's commitment to maintain some stability. I got the feeling our previous leaders in the department were mostly concerned with keeping it financially in the black and placing less emphasis on wins and losses. I think our current AD is placing the emphasis on stability, wins, and fiscal reponsibility right now.

As a much-maligned local sports writer once told me, if someone is slacking off, you usually look to their boss first.

It's very simple-PAY. Their salaries are MUCH improved. This will be a big thing from now on and will help greatly.....

Their salaries are much better compared to a lot of other schools in the Big 12, check it out.

I wouldn't agree that noone wants our coaches, actually. No doubt this is a cohesive and committed group and any feelers out there may quickly be swayed to waste much time pursuing. The increased pay definitly helps them decide to remain.

Stability is under-rated and probably caused RC's demise...not to blame him, because opportunity and money are signifcant motivators

Torbush $250,000 a season... thats not all too bad for a coordinator.

I didn't mean to direct criticism at RC only. From what I saw a wide variety of factors led to people coming and going.

Haven't some of the FSU coaches been with Bowden for nearly 20 years. It plays a big role in recruiting.

However, winning is even bigger.

winning is much easier when the coaching staff is working on the team agenda rather than their own personal success

Agreed, powerbiscuit. A former boss had a great mantra that I've adopted as my own: "None of us are as good as all of us."

Team agenda > personal agenda.

I would also suggest that this factor is important. Competitive pay naturally helps attract, motivate, and retain good assistants. But Fran specifically must be doing something right, too. Historically, his staffs typically haven't suffered from a lot of turnover. There must be additional reasons besides pay for the loyalty.

RC hired Deno Baberosa. 'Nuff said.

I think this is a very good thing for you guys. Most of the time it works out well and pays dividends about now.

Then again, we still have Greg Davis......

I asked that question because I don't necessarily think the continuity issue is the end all and be all, but we have been skewed too far in the opposite direction for too long for this to not be a great benefit to the program. Yes, the jury is still out on the results overall, but anybody who knows football could see the jump we made last year in attitude/play on the field. You can also see the improvement in recruiting, so I think you can already see the positives starting to happen.

If we see a similar improvement this season to what we had last season there is no question we are nearly where we need to be, and the continuity we have had for what will be 3 years on the field is clearly the best in years, and a major contributing factor to that success.

keeping the same coaching staff was one of the keys to the Cornhusker dynasty for so many years. See what has happened since then.

I think that stability is great for a program. I hope that we see the dividends from this stability next season and beyond.

The reasons for the lack of coaching movement are probably better pay and a collective 11-13 record since they have been here. If we win 7-8 games their first year and would have competed for the Big 12 title last year, I don't think we would still have both of our coordinators.

1876, You are way, way, way off base. Our coaches are desirable coaches and when we start wining more you will see Koening take another position but it will be as a HC.

Torbush well, it may be harder for him as he was an HC and had a bad run. He is also not a young.

Fran is really great to work for as a HC. He is very clear in his expectations and job descriptions. He empowers his staff to make reall decisions and have real input. He is stable and consistent in his approach to things.

The coaches do have top rated pay for their positions and that surely is a factor in retention. So unless the job is signficant promotion why would they leave?

I don't take a job that pays equal amount for the same work. That would be risky, it would be moving to move, unless I am unhappy where I am. Fran has an excellent reputation as an HC. I have never seen anyone leave because they were unhappy, nor have I seen him demote or fire an assistant (I will admit I have not done a lot research here!) I have never heard any rumors of internal staff contention with any of Fran's staffs.

That is a credit to Fran. I am sure there are disagreements on things, the point is Fran's staff feels secure enough to state their point of view even if different than Fran's and not be concerned about getting reprimanded, demoted or fired. That is a very key issue.

"only one thing is important!"

RC also hired Mike Sherman and Larry Kirksey.

Are we going to get in this pissing contest again about RC's hires, fires, and coaches who got hired away for better pay?

I agree with Burdizzo. Pointless to complain about the fact that RC hired Babers. How bout the fact that in that same hire, RC hired Sumlin, who many felt was a genius? Babers had a good resume, it just didn't work out for him. RC typically had very good assistants though, otherwise so many of them wouldn't have left to the NFL and to head coaching jobs.
