On the plus side, we are the best team to have lost to 7 of the teams ranked in the top 25!

Bama lost to TN by 16 points in a pretty one sided game. Bama is 5. Tenn is 13.

The committee will be able to do whatever they like with the SEC now that there are so many games. It's makes their politicking even easier.

I don't think we'll have an undefeated team finish the regular season, much less the CCGs. UCLA still has to play Michigan and USC plus whoever they'd play in the Big 10 game. Miami still has ND, Duke, and possibly Wake. Utah has BYU, and likely tech.

Ohio State has 4 tough games coming up: Oregon, Northwestern, and Michigan at home and Nebraska there. I don't think they'll be on this list come Cyber Monday (actually, the next day).

If Northwestern beats Iowa, they'll likely take Iowa's place in the rankings. Imagine that!

If Alabama beats LSU, they should coast to a playoff spot. If not, they could still get in depending on if the committee wants to spread the wealth or keep the homer system in place. Who goes over the other: a 3-loss Bama team or a 3-loss USC team?

Cougar High SHOULD win out, meaning they're a 2-loss team that didn't play for their conference game. Can they move up 5 spots in a month? It APPEARS that Houston and Arizona could win out (2 losses each), and Utah could win out other than Arizona (one loss), and BYU wins out other than Utah (2 losses total). None of that affects tech as far as I can tell. Thus, you'd have FIVE Big 12 teams with 2 losses or less (tech and Utah having 1) entering the CCG. How many of those potentially get in?

BYU REALLY screwed themselves with that UCF loss. May keep them out entirely.

I'm actually surprised ND is that low. Doesn't bode well for them if they lose to Miami. But I suspect they needed to keep them behind BYU. And couldn't put BYU ahead of darlings IU, Bama and Tx.

My rankings would be:
UM
UGA
UU
UCLA
IU
UK
BYU
ND
Bama
Tex
OM
OSU
TTU
UT
LSU

Would you prefer a 3 loss Big10 team? How bout a 2 or 3 loss Big 12 team?

Pate cracked me up when he reviewed this. He was wondering if part of Nick Saban's ESPN contract had him as the one deciding the playoff ranking.

They better hope Notre Dame loses to Miami this weekend. ND winning will knock out a SEC team from the playoff.

Horns lost to two average teams, one at home and very bad OU team. Like I said the committee can make up whatever they like to justify their stance.

It's insane to have any 3 loss team in the rankings at this point. A 5-3 team is batting .625 - a D- average. It has already been decided that a team with three losses isn't a national championship team.

Whether you agree with it or not, I think this is the committee protecting the SEC. They don't know which of these teams are going to emerge from the pack, but they know some of them will and some of them won't, so they are hedging their bets.

Horns also had back to back losses to unranked, and barely squeaked by a (still) overrated OSU.

#21 South Carolina, #23 Oregon (who lost to 5-3 Okie Lite), and #24 Florida are in the CFP rankings. All are 5-3.

By comparison, there are zero 5-3 teams in the Coaches' Poll and only Florida is in the AP poll at #25.

They are probably indifferent to if ND or another SEC team makes it.

the usual for the sips.. CFP under the direction of esipn puts whorns at 7, so they can still lose a game and get in the playoffs with 3 losses.. also their schedule has been 6 home games, 4 of which have been night games.. this week will be their 2nd true road game, both at 11 am... esipn runs college sports and unfortunately they cater to the sips.. got em in the SEC and now pampers them any way they can...

All four of our losses were to the top 25 teams: No. 5 Alabama, No. 14 LSU, No. 18 Missouri, and No. 6 Kentucky, including two top 6 teams.

If Georgia beats Ole Miss on the road this Saturday and Tennessee beats Kentucky at home, I think Georgia and Tennessee will likely be the only SEC teams that can finish 10-2 or better. All of the other SEC contenders: including Kentucky, Alabama, Texas, Ole Miss, LSU, and Missouri will likely lose at least 3 games.

It's fine for you to think that those don't matter, but they do. For instance, when 5-3 Oregon is ranked, but 5-3 Okie Lite, which beat Oregon head-to-head, isn't ranked, it impacts the strength of schedule and strength of record for the teams ranked above them that play them. And when you get into that 5-3 record category there are a LOT of teams from which you can choose.

It also sets the stage for a 3-loss SEC team to make the CFP, and I would bet $100 that there will be one of those this season.

This is what happens when you expand the playoffs this much, you are going to have a bunch of teams that have no business playing for a title. Even when it was 4 teams, there were a few teams that shouldn't have been there. Only going to be worse when it goes to 24, which is just stupid.

Besides us in 2024, sips have yet to win a big SEC game on the road at night. UK and Miss State last year (both in OT) don't count as big games. I assume their game at LSU this year will be an 11am kick.

They HAVE to put Oregon and Florida in the Top 25 to prop up the decisions they have and want to make. If OSU can thump Oregon they beat a top 25 ranked opponent propelling them up. tu has now lost to a top 25 team so they can justify their current ranking.
