His response was " it just doesn't feel like that the move would help us.". Really dude?? Wtf? I cannot believe that is where this guy is mentally. Why not the f#@$ck do you not start getting Helaman Casuga ready for play. Dam dude, try something!!!! So, that comment leads me to believe either two things. He is a another egotistical Aggie coach (fran, sumlin, Jimbo), doesn't give a crap about our program due to his salary ( Jimbo), of just plain football stupid. I had his back since his hire date and very impressed with him last year. But simply put, when something brakes, you simply try to fix it with what tools you have. (4 scholarship qb's) We are now a dumbster fire in the worst ghetto in Detroit. It's crazy that teams like Alabama, Georgia, etc, can get a true freshman (Casuga) ready for play when he is called for duty. But, of course, we never can do stuff like. Elko is totally checked out now as by watching him in the presser yesterday. Wish the best for the guy, but after his response to the Olin question yesterday, coaching junior high school football is calling his name. I mean really bro....don't feel like that is the move? Ya, bro...Reed is doing really awesome this year... It ain't broke, why fix it?.... Idiot!!

And you know what?

If he's dumb enough to bring Marcel back next year, we will have zero backups. They will all leave because they know no matter how badly the starter plays, they are not going to be given a chance to earn the job.

Elko mentioned once in a presser that statistically your highest chance to win is with a QB that has continuity with the team. In his mind, hart has no continuity and thus makes us less likely to win. What he fails to see is Marcel is bad. He still thinks Marcie can get it done so he won't give hart a chance. It's paralysis by analysis.
Give me the guy who shoots for excellence and fails over the guy who shoots for mediocrity and succeeds.

You guys want to put in a pocket passer behind an online that can't stop 3 linemen from getting a sack when we have 6 in to block…??!!??!

Reed has problems, no doubt, but he is 2nd or 3rd behind our Oline and our WRs (who can't catch balls when they hit their hands)

The season is over. Play some guys and see what you've got to build on for next season.

If Hart is not at least backup material based on what you see the rest of the year, toss him and Reed.

He's #1. He can't hit the broad side of a barn anymore.

Is it possible the O line is so bad Elko wants to keep Reed in at QB so he doesn't hinder the development of a young QB who will get beat down, start hearing footsteps, and bail before the play has a chance to develop?

Is this a case of there is more wrong than just 1 position?

I really don't care if that is the case. You got 100 players on the team. Some of them I heard were highly recruited out of high school. Throw the whole 2nd team O line out there with QB2 and see what happens? It's not like the 1st team can score a TD.

Can Casuga run? Put him in, he weighs 213 pounds so should be able to hold up.

I agree completely with OP. I also felt like Elko looked and sounded like a hostage when he answered the question. I think he knows he may be wrong but how will it look if Hart performs well after all the resisting? As for making a change, I don't care if Hart does play poorly. Elko owes it to the team and the fans to try something different and that means a minimum of 3-4 series to get acclimated to game conditions. We're not going to win games with what we've been getting out of Reed.

It's really crazy how bad our qb room is. What's crazier is anyone that can call out formations would've told you it's going to be a long year if Reed comes back. I don't pretend to know more than elko, but sometimes blind spots are real and his has moved to being his whole windshield.

Hes done though. He has to be a choir boy to not be fired for cause at any point in his contract going forward. Just a matter of time. Maybe we get him for destruction of public property (the chair)...

Or, hear me out, we might want to re-evaluate what the hell we are doing on the offensive side of the ball? We have seen how bad Reed has been throwing the ball this year - so has everyone else, including those who continue to stack the box and kill our running game - why continue to keep doing the same **** over and over knowing it won't work?

I'd rather put in a pocket passer over a non-passer.

Not sure why everybody thinks Reed is a runner. He's capable but it's not part of his current game.

He's quick and a good runner. But he doesn't run very much. When pocket breaks down, he should try to run for first down. Instead he drifts back, typically into more trouble, and then slings it somewhere random.

Early on, he would look at first read. If it's there, let it rip. If not, pull it down and run like hell.

Right now, he's scared to run and scared to throw.

There's a hopeful interpretation here:

  • Elko believes that Wiggins's bad play designs put too much mental load on Marcel (go listen to Elko's comments about mental strain).
  • Elko has a backup OC option under development, and that option is directly working with Hart.
  • Elko is isolating Wiggins's blast radius to Marcel; perhaps Marcel has chosen to go down with Wiggins's (and Lynch's) ship as well.
  • Forcing Hart to play in Wiggins's system will hurt Hart's readiness under the new OC option and may either -- mentally or physically -- degrade Hart's ability to play.
And of course Elko is doing his famous wagon-circling to avoid scrutiny landing on anyone under him.

Now that's just the QB. I'd also be concerned about -- under that hopeful interpretation -- how well the new OC option will be able to revive OL and backfield blocking to protect Hart.

I put the chances of my hopeful interpretation at about 5% though.

Yes. Reed is the #1 problem. Having a QB who can't throw is similar to putting a RB out there who doesn't have legs.

Or it could possibly be that Reed is better than Hart. I am not at practice, but I haven't seen Hart wow me in his limited time. The last time he played and attempted a meaningful pass it was picked.

Reed hasn't looked good/consistent, but he has thrown some darts on the money and several of those darts were big time drops.

This x100. Reed won't scramble when a play breaks down. So we have a guy that can't throw straight, and won't run when he decides to not throw towards open receivers. As far as football is concerned he is literally worthless on the playing field. There are ZERO legitimate explanations as to why he is still starting. There is literally nothing left to lose.

He could put me in for 4 years and that continuity would lose us 48 games. Continuity with s good QB brings wins. Continuity with a ****ty QB gets you losses. He needs to revisit causation versus correlation.

You're preaching to the choir. I don't know how he can't see it. Last years Marcel was serviceable. But this years Marcel is abysmal. There's no world in which he should still be playing. All positions should be up for grabs at all times.

Remember when Dustin Harris returned punts for us? And how scary it was EVERY SINGLE TIME?
It was just a sense of dread. Like you just knew how it was gonna look either way. If he caught it or not - you just had a sense.

That's how it is with Reed running at this point. I just feel a sense of nightmarish anticipation that he's gonna HAUL ASS AWAY FROM THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE with the best possible outcome being that he throw that sum beach OB.

Elko had a Elk in the headlights look to him in that post-game PC.
I don't think he has a clear idea on how to fix this.
Buckle up Ags.....we are in for a bumpy ride in the 2nd half of the season.
And to think he was chastising Aggie fanbase last year for having the BAS syndrome.
Well....he is 3-5 in his last 8 games.

Well, I do think there's a fine point about OLine play that a lot of people are missing. I think our OLine has played pretty well at times. But when the QB can't make pedestrian passes, the opposing defense loads up the box without worrying about a downfield threat, and you can't really expect any OLine to be successful when a decent opposing defense knows your offense can't handle the forward pass.

You cannot block for a guy that drops 30 feet behind the line, and runs to the sideline fifty percent of the time.

I want a QB who can take snaps over center, not a guy that drifts back 30 feet back playing freeze tag.

Can you be more clueless??? If Reed was able to hit receivers in stride the ENTIRE defense would then open up as they would actually have to be aware that the A&M offense is two-dimensional. The defenses we are playing now are aware they only have to stop the run.

Elko SHOULD be giving Hart 1st team reps in practice this week with Casuaga taking 2nd team reps.
Zero to be gained this week with Reed playing against Citadel.

I do think Reed needs to be replaced. Reed has the skills, but it is not translating into on the field performance, which is likely from pressure he is feeling and putting the team on his back and failing. Unfortunately, his stress will begin to transfer to the other players and you see sloppy play from many of your top guys; just look at the drops by Craver and Horton, missed tackles, missed assignments etc.

They need to put in Brady Hart and see what happens, it certainly couldn't be much worse and he could bring a much more positive feel to the team.

There have been a ton of quarterbacks who have had great talent, but have not had it translate to success on field, largely due to the high expectations of success and the inability to manage the stress of living up to those high expectations.

Reed is already the worst ranked QB in the SEC, and almost the worst ranked QB in all of FBS.
Is that due to just Reed sucking, or the OL sucking, Wiggins being clueless? I think a perfect storm of all 3.

Well, maybe (just maybe), Hart doesn't give us a better chance to win (Elko's goal is to win), and throwing a true freshman into SEC games amidst an unhappy pressure cooker of a fanbase isn't a recipe for long term development? you think if Casuga started every game the rest of the way and look bad to mediocre, the fanbase is going to be excited at the prospects of him being our starter next year? IN that scenario, why make next year toxic too?
