First three offensive possessions:

Drive 1: Advanced into opponent territory, inside the 35-yard line. A false start on 4th-and-5 backed the offense up, forcing a punt.

Drive 2: Also reached inside the 30-yard line but ended in a turnover.

Drive 3: Drove down to the 5-yard line in scoring position, but the field goal attempt was blocked

We really shot ourselves in the foot.

Watching it now. There are time when they look like they don't believe that they should be there.

Wind made it a strange game

On a neutral field normal wind we were 100% winning that game.

I'm planning on rewatching it too just as soon as I redo my last root canal.
I feel so much better since about 11 a.m. CT on 20 Jan. 2025

I know this sounds harsh to some… in Refugio those who shoot themselves in the foot are called losers.

But I thought it was all Reeds fault….

I'm so over it that the thing I feel the worst about is the poor kid that had a mulligan to kick the field goal and missed again.

Agreed. I can't imagine being so bored to watch an old game, especially one we lost.

So no matter how many times you watch it we still lose? I'm shocked, shocked…

Had we not gotten screwed out of a targeting penalty, we might have still have taken it into OT.

I put that loss squarely on the OC's back. Glad he is gone. If Wiggins struggles, I'm okay with that risk. CK could get you 80 yards, any series of any game....it was the last 20 yards where his brain froze up. JMO

Drive 1 or 2 there was a back wide open in the left flat 2 times and Reed never looked that way. I don't think it showed up on the camera angle but in person it was aggravating to see

I won't miss, assuming Wiggins doesn't do this, the inclination to run some marginal, rarely used play just as we are getting into a rhythm. For this game, our first turnover was such a play, naked roll to the left where Reed gets assaulted as he's throwing the ball to receiver 5 feet away. We went outside our normal playbook too many times when we were in position to score only to have it blow up in our face.

Remember the dumbass running back attempting a lateral play at the end of the South Carolina game to give them one last glimmer of hope after that massive comeback?
I will never, ever forget that. Nor his absolute failure against the sips even as K-State's OC.

That was another prime example of the exasperating play that didn't just fail but, was so poorly executed it looked like it was drawn up in the sand and never practiced. On the other side of the Klein coin was, for example, running up the middle 3 plays in a row and getting stoned each time. But, on the whole, Klein left us with really good scheme.

It's hard to call plays when you're usually reliable or at least average running game or getting stuffed.

Then again we did nothing with Marcel to overcome the lack of a productive running game with the RBs, no QB draw, no speed option, no zone-read, no moving pocket RPO, etc.

Targeting call immaterial, we had it 3rd and goal from the 4 to tie game and Reed threw an INT. His red zone and in particular goal to go INTs must be eliminated.

Forgot how close we were to tying that game up and going to OT. First and goal from 4. Craver just barely out of the back of the end zone. Owens crunched on incomplete pass at goal line and then the bad throw by our QB. Truly a game of inches that day.

Why would any fan go back and rewatch a loss? Are you expecting the result to change? You're just going to make your day miserable.

Don't forget the targeting no call hit on Owens as the ball hit his hands.

I'll always wonder. Do we win that game if CK uses RPO, QB draw, speed-outs (you know, the things Reeds best at) ?

I do it all the time. I'm amazed at how often that when re-watching it I have a completely different feel about how we played. Usually come away thinking we looked better than I remembered when watching it live. Plus I know we are going to lose, so no angst when things go awry.
