Ketch admits texas way overpaid for the #1 class in 2025 and that a lot of bad money was spent. His basic point is Texas learned a lesson with wild overpays on the 2025 class. He claims texas new plan is basically pick 4 or 5 of the best guys in the country and pay what it takes to land them. Fill the rest of your class with cheap projects and then spend your real money on portal guys.

He is basically saying Elko is doing what Sark did in 2025. But now Sark knows better. He has subscriptions to sell, so he can't say Elko is killing it on the trail. And hell, he could be right for once.

This was a well thought out synopsis of this situation.
Time will tell who is right, but I do agree that the argument for prioritizing immediate starters is becoming more compelling every year.

Has he said exactly which kids were bad money? From what I can see 15 of 18 blue chippers from that class are still on the roster and 3 have transferred. That leaves only three possibilities:
1 - they overpaid for the 3 start kids at the bottom of the class in which case they're idiots
2 - they're holding onto players who they overpaid for in which case they're idiots
3 - ketch is full of crap

If the staff felt they overpaid so much then there would've been more of an exodus.

Justice Terrry was the kid 5 star they pulled from Georgia out of nowhere. The kid flat out said he picked Texas because he could not turn down what he was offered. He ended up being a tweeter type, not big enough for DT or athletic enough for DE. He will end up a good player but not a game changer, and they know it. They also spent huge dollars on 4 receivers and none look to be special. Jonah Williams (who A&M wanted badly) has been hurt or playing baseball the entire time. Best freshman last year was a 3 star corner who they spent next to nothing on.

These kids have been on campus 18 months. If they had a bunch of 1st rounders they would know it by now. They don't. And if a kid signed a 3 yr $3M deal and can't play, he is not hitting the portal. If Texas cancels their deal and word gets out, agents will be pissed. If the kid leaves and takes current market value, he loses 18 months of big dollars. When you miss on a high dollar 18 year old, you will likely be paying for that mistake for 3 years.
