just looking at the first round you have to change the analysis of what happened last year.

Ags overperformed on the field with only ONE first round draft choice

and even that one pick is one of the least important roles when building an NFL team.

compare and contrast with Miami Hurricanes having three first rounders (two DL, one OL)

and Ohio State having four

and Notre Dame having two

good job by the Ags!

Based on this criteria, Clemson needs to fire Dabo Swinney immediately after having 2 first rounders (1 OL and 1 DL) after a dissapointing season.

I'm not sure "overperformed" with a single, late 1st round draft choice by a franchise known both for overreaching and failing to meet franchise needs or develop personnel is a meaningful claim. And the two losses to Texas and Miami and the Gamecocks near disaster do much to substantiate the concept,

Olin emphasizing 13 invitees to the ceremony when only one got drafted in the first round also causes a double take if not 13…

I hope the last couple years are the norm, not another brief exception, but we've had top 20 talent pretty much every year since the mid 80s and still managed to finish unranked most years, never mind actually winning hardware

So do we think the draft picks are Jimbo's legacy or Elko's new era???

It shows that Elko can really evaluate and develop.

I have been impressed. In past years you would have seen players slip farther down than expected. This is the first year I can remember seeing some surprises going higher than expected. I feel that is a real good sign in what Elko is doing.

It's a little misleading. You can do really well in NCAAF and not be drafted in the first round or even be drafted at all. Cashius and his hat trick.... still not enough for a 1st round grade.

The truth is, last year's roster was fairly loaded with talent. Elko has no hardware

Stellar job by the staff evaluating and developing talent from the portal.

OP putting too much emphasis on 1st round. There are only 32 picks in first round with each team with one pick (some with 2 of course due to trades).

It's really about the first 3 or 4 rounds which reveals the talent on your team the season prior. Almost always a direct correlation to having a great season and 4 months later having multiple draft picks at many different positions. The Aggies will probably have 2-3 more drafted and several UDFA signings.

We just got an unlucky CFP draw, which the entire CFP playoffs revealed the quality of that team and now the draft, we would have destroyed Alabama or Technical and maybe won 2 games, who knows.

Anyway I see this draft so far as affirmation and validation of Elko and his evaluation and development of players.

"Ags overperformed on the field with only ONE first round draft choice"

The easy SEC schedule played a big part. Depth was a big part too.

Miami has only had 3 in three rounds. They had a pretty easy schedule too but played better towards the end of the season.

Indiana has had two in three rounds, i think.
That is over achieving.

O don't know, the LBs didn't seem know the middle of the field existed.

We win at least 1-2 playoff games with any of the other playoff QBs (with the exception of the Tulane QB) starting for us. Elko is amassing talent here.... we just have to go thru our version of the Jake Fromm Era.

We all know that we will go as far as Mond Reed will take us next year. If I was a college coach, I would portal in a QB. Indiana / Ole Miss has shown it works.

7 Aggies in the first 3 rounds. We've never had a draft class like that. Recruits pay attention to this.

Super stoked about Aggie draftees. For years, the criticism has been that we can recruit, but not develop. This is a sign that our program is recruiting AND developing
