I think 9-3 is probably the most reasonable, way too early prediction.

Offense is a complete TBD with tons of question marks but a lot of potential answers.

This is likely going to be Elko's best defense since returning as HC.

9/3 or 10/2 ..... just depends on in my opinion the O line and how well gels and gets the run game going... I think the receiver group will be great... our backs should be if they get blocking...

Defense wise I dare to say possibly better than last year? I really feel our Db will be really good..

Guess we will see!

If Marcel/Wiggins combo doesn't click, or the OL really struggles, 7-5 or 8-4 are well within play.

If it clicks on offense, 10+ and another playoff birth are well within play.

But I am more confident in this defense than 2025 in January of last year.

the variability of college football is a complete crap shoot. any prediction with any confidence is a farce.

our team has the potential to be good to great or average. the amount of movement these days between every team makes it damn near impossible to truly guess who is going to be that team.

Yes but no reason not to be confident and optimistic until you have a reason not to be.... This past season ended to early and not how anyone wanted... BUT before the season started the majority of the national media AND folks on this board all said... 7-5 or 8-4... so until there is a reason not to be optimistic, confident, happy,.. whatever it is... why not be!

Looks good and although OL is a big question mark, I'm drinking kool aide.

Also do you think Byard could be our starter at NB?

Agreed, but you're missing Rickie Gibson, the corner transfer from Tennessee. Betting favorite to win a starting spot over Humphrey

I think we have a floor of 7-5 (6-1 home and 1-4 away) and a ceiling of 10-2 (7-0 home and 3-2 away) with likely road losses to Alabama and Oklahoma and swing games against LSU (away), South Carolina (away), and Texas (home). My way-too-early 2026 prediction is 9-3 (7-0 home and 2-3 away) with road losses to LSU, Alabama, and Oklahoma

Nothing scares me about Alabama any more. They lost a lot to the portal and didn't replace with much.

Post portal projections:

9/5 - Miz State (W)
9/12 - ASU (W)
9/19 - UK (W)
9/26 - at L$U (Lean W)
10/3 - Piggies (W)
10/10 - at Mizzou (Lean W)
10/17 - Citadel (W)
10/24 - at Bama (Toss Up)
11/7 - at USCe (Lean W)
11/14 - UT (Lean W)
11/21 - at 0U (L)
11/28 - tu (Toss Up)

While I think the defense will holistically be better, jury will be out on the offense. Also, with our new kicked and the self inflicted nature of the ST issues, I'm going to trust Elko to get it right. We may have not gotten the most glamorous class, but I think we got some of the most complimentary needs to our roster, especially compared to our competition (both Mizzou and Bama net talent on3 declined), which is why I lean toward us going 10-2. I will note, if L$U was later in the year, I might even say 8-4, but we got a scheduling break.

Yes, but Alabama is still a very tough road game, even under Kalen DeBoer. Alabama has lost just 7 home games in the last 18 years: Auburn in 2010, LSU in 2011, Texas A&M in 2012, Ole Miss in 2015, LSU in 2019, Texas in 2023, and Oklahoma in 2025. Kalen DeBoer is 13-1 in home games, including 8-1 in home games against Power 4 teams and 7-1 in SEC home games. His only home loss was a 23-21 loss to Oklahoma on 11/15/2025.

This offense will struggle with Reed as QB1 and Owens as RB1. People won't like me saying that but it's true. A lot of Aggies fall in love with guys because they have been on the roster for a while. This is a different college football landscape if you are serious about winning. Tough roster evaluations need to happen every year. If Elko puts on blinders and tries to stay loyal to players with a limited ceiling instead of making tough roster decisions, then we can put his picture on the Coach's Wall of "guys we thought were going to lead us to the promise land" and start figuring out his buyout and start a coaching search. Or just decide that Aggies are too nice to do what is necessary to compete in today's college football. I'm fine either way but we need to make a decision and stop lying to ourselves and each other.

I personally think we finally have the right leader in Elko.
He has the program moving in the right direction.
Is our QB perfect...no.
Do we know what kind of OL we will have next season...no.
Do we have holes...yes.
But very few teams out there don't have holes especially given portal losses causing problems and/or lack of depth at a minimum.
So far Elko and staff have done pretty well in the portal and our recruiting is looking good.
So for the foreseeable future I think things are trending positively.
It's too early to start giving Elko serious grief.
It seems like nobody around college football fan bases has any patience anymore.
Especially since Cignetti has pulled off a miracle in Indiana.

What about Dalton Brooks at NB? I've always thought he was the most like Antonio Johnson of anyone on the roster, and AJ was Elko's best NB, IMO.
katyag44
How long do you want to ignore this user?
How about Brandon Arrington at nickel if others step up at corner. If he can get to about 195-200 lbs at 6-2, that's close to Antonio Johnson his freshman year. By mid year he could be ready to lock it down. That would keep Brooks, Byard and Ratcliff as the safeties. With Ricks and 1 more corner stepping up, that would be a stout secondary.

I'll predict the same as last year, 9 wins. That's a lot of new pieces on the line, but they could turn out be a great unit, really like the competition all of them have experienced. I know Reed really struggled the last 2 games, but he was in the running for the heisman before he went on the decline. He has the juice to get us where we want to go and I'd expect another step up from last season. The Horton pickup was huge imo. The secondary appears to be stacked. The DL pickups were solid, I'm sure ERob had some pull in those acquisitions. The middle LB from Tulsa looks to be a tackling machine. I was hoping for a bruising rb, but we may have that guy already in Ridden. For the most part it appears Elko got who he wanted out of the portal and so far the man knows how to evaluate players.
So give me some of that koolaid!
