Playoff Run Concerns: Devil's Advocate

Let's start by saying that I think we win a close game against Miami at home, but we don't enter any game with zero level of concerns.

My biggest concern in not just this game, but the overall potential for a playoff run, is the Klein's level of distraction while juggling the two biggest moments of his career at the same time.

We will need an unprecedented level of 4D chess to scheme against the toughest stretch in our history that's requires 110% attention and then some. I would expect any level of overtime needed during this time that I'm not certain we can get. But there are ways this can be overcome.

Elko is smart enough to understand the dilemma at hand and I'm sure is finding ways to compensate or ensure this issue is minimized as much as possible. In addition, we have a co-OC on staff that clearly has interest in becoming an OC at some point.

And as for Klein, a deep playoff run or more would make his job so much easier on the recruiting front as a HC. So I'm certain that he's all in even though there will be a natural level of distraction involved. And that distraction is completely gone once the first snap takes place.

For me, it's a battle of BAS vs hope. I'm certain the 12th Man will show up big time regardless of time for the biggest match Kyle Field has ever seen, and Elko will have the scheme ready and our boys ready to knock doors down.

So BAS be damned. The sleeping giant is finally awake and we're coming for it all.

Well, if there's such a thing as a loss waking a team up and providing a spark, then the sip one came at the right time.

To me, it's either a wake-up call or tu provided blueprint.

UM has corners that can play man coverage, they have a DL better than tu's I think, and thought UM's OL is more experienced (tu was in a rebuild OL year and handled our pash rush pretty well and doubled Howell all game and no one stepped up enough; will definitely be UM's gameplan). A QB who throws the ball better, but not as mobile as Prince Manning. Their running game is better than tu's and we made tu look unstoppable.

We screwed up the tu game and team played tight IMO (esp not having our proverbial 3rd Qtr win and actually losing it).

The game will prove if Elko can coach them out of their own minds and get out of their own way. If Reed has 2 Ints, the game is over (don't even think we can afford 1 this game).

Let's throw in Klein's distraction and his desire to go home to 'family' and his next steps.

Need to win just to prove the season wasn't a hoax or will be labeled the facade of the year by every non-Ag outlet out there. So let's BTHO them!

We keep talking about the lack of respect at Texas A&M.
No doubt that is a fact.
However, if we want To do something about that lack of respect all we have to do is win
Starting with Miami and hopefully continuing through the playoff run we'll find out how bad they want respect.
We beat Miami and beat OSU we'll get plenty of respect.
Anything after that is gravy.

I don't think sip figured out any blueprints for everyone or that we finally got exposed. It was an extremely competitive rivalry game, and it's very rare to win every game in a season even for the best team.

Hopefully it was the reset we needed and the wake up call for us to regroup for the games that matter the most.

Certainly an issue. Going up against the best and we have part time coach. That cant be good.

Yea Klein is probably going to be taking Kansas St calls up in the press box…. He'll be fine. Elko is not going to prevent a guy from his dream job. Klein wants to win too

South Carolina was supposedly the wake up call we needed too.

Did you turn it off at half time? We won that game.

Meh.. much ado about nothing. If we win, it's not a big deal. If we lose, it's all because Klein was distracted. Elko knows how important this is. He's the one that has to live with the results. He made the choice to let Klein continue rather than give it to someone else. Look at Ole Miss.. they have a whole ass side of the ball that is being coached by short timers. Ohio State has the same problem too as well as the two G5 teams. It's not uncommon.

0-4 in win to advance games over the last two years. Enough concern!

I had us losing to the whorns, and I have us losing to Miami. They're a pretty similar team except Beck can't run. That's a plus in our favor, but not significant enough that we win IMO. I think we lose a 23-20 type of game.

Sounds like you already have a built in reason to place blame.

Just enjoy being in the playoffs for our first time. Quit thinking up reasons to take away your excitement.

The concern about the OC situation is way overblown, We have 3 weeks to get ready for this game

Klein is here to call plays and when the OL is playing well his plays "miraculously" work and he's a genius when our guys are getting beat he's a moron

Everybody knows the playbook hopefully we execute, get some rhythm, minimize penalties and look like 2 nd half LSU

If we don't it will be because OSU is a really good team and the good guys did not play their best not because Klein is leaving at the end of the playoffs

Of course just my.02

The Klein thing does not bother me, he knows these kids, what they can do best, has multiple weeks to watch a lil Miami film…just show up, call plays that put us in good position and then kids need to execute….my concern is Marcel not throwing down field enough as I KNOW Klein will call it

You can have a wake up call in a win

There are parts of games going 11-1 that showed we can win a game or two in the playoffs. First half of SC and second half of tu showed we can win 0 games. Who the f*** knows. Just a bunch of guessing. We'll soon see.

Playing the best football in December will be a huge challenge. Wouldn't put this immediately in the W column and begin looking to Dallas under any circumstances. This game will be tough from the kick.

Having legitimate concerns has nothing to do with blame preparation. I started and ended by saying I think we win this game. Keep up.

All this being said, I do think it was the right decision to keep Klein onboard through the playoffs. It's too much to juggle without him, and he surely wants a natty on his resume as well.
