#4 seed and a Bye or Hosting a CFP Game

We have a better Strength of Schedule and Strength or Record over Tech per our "friend" Heather Dinich at ESPN:

"The committee has a lot of respect for the Aggies' four road wins. The Aggies entered the weekend with a noticeable edge over Texas Tech in strength of record (23 to 56) and strength of schedule (1 to 10). It's possible the committee drops the Aggies only one spot, flipping them with Georgia, which means they'd still be in position to earn a first-round bye as the No. 4 seed".

The problem I feel are the Duckies. They could make us a #5 seed. Hosting the winner of the American Conference (Either UNT or Tulane) would be a great matchup for us.

Your thoughts?

I think playing the Indiana side of the bracket is as important as anything. Avoiding OSU is vital

No way they give us the 4 seed.

Assuming Indiana doesn't get smoked next week and tumble

Honestly, I'd prefer the 5 or 6 seed and hosting a winnable 1st-round game.

I kind of agree. We need a confidence booster so having a home game and a win to gain momentum would definitely have some benefits.

exactly the conversation I had with my dad last week. Now, I said that in context of a well played, hard fought, close loss to Texas, and what I saw was an alarmingly unprepared and listless team, on the biggest stage of the season, so I'm not quite as contented.

No chance in hell they give us the 4 seed. It's going to be 6 or 7.

I seriously doubt the committee is going to do A&M any favors by giving them the 5 seed because they know that matches an SEC team against the G5.
Just don't see that happening.
I think the committee is now under recency bias influence and will punish A&M with a 7 or below seed.
That will mean probably facing ND again very first game.

Just keep us away from the 7th seed. With the Ole Miss off field meltdown I don't see how the committee ranks them above A&M or Oregon. I think A&M's resume is better anyways. With Tech likely winning the Big XII (and having 12 wins), I also don't see how the committee doesn't give them #4. I think A&M deserves #5 over Oregon's weaker schedule, but we'll see. I'm thinking it is #6 versus the 11th seed. Probably ACC winner Virginia at Kyle Field.

At this point, every team is getting a "bye week" even if they participate in their Championship Games.

I don't see the bye week for us or the #5 seed either. A #6 seed and home game against Virginia seems more likely.

I believe Aggies have a better resume than Oregon and Ole Miss. So if Georgia, Ohio State, and Tech all win the best case scenario would be #5.
1. Ohio State
2. Georgia
3. Indiana/Tech
4. Indiana/Tech
5. Aggies
6. Oregon
7. Ole Miss
8. OU
9. ND
10. Bama
11. Virginia
12. Tulane

Tech losing would be great for our positioning as them and BYU would be below us.

The team really did seem off and unprepared.

I'm not criticizing, but it's rather puzzling, especially since it was a rivalry game.

Not sure total record means as much at this time of the year as you think it does. Recent impressions are pretty key, and the team is on a downward trajectory. A couple weeks ago, had a miraculous comeback against a team that should never have been in the game (much less ahead 27 points), and then got humiliated on national tv in the last game. How many committee members today would think we could beat any of the other 11-1 teams? Not many, based on our recent performance.

Y'all want a home game vs a first round bye?
This is why Aggie jokes exit.

We would need one of these to happen to have a remote shot at the 4 seed IMO. OSU blows out IU, or BYU beats Tech.

I agree with this and the recency bias is not going to help our case. I don't exactly think we were humiliated… we just lost a prime time road game to a team that is extremely talented. Oregon is an interesting one but the resume is not good. Ole Miss would be ahead of us if this coaching thing wasn't happening but that should keep us over them. And honestly 4,5,6 would all be okay. Dropping to 7 is where things would be rather dicey

Ranking tech over us is a joke. You're saying a loss to ASU on the road is better than a loss to a "good" team on the road…PLUS they are in a pitiful conference

If they win the Big 12, they at least have that case. While I 100% agree that if we're comparing losses, Aggies is way better. If we're comparing wins, Aggies is way better. They'd have the conference championship as the leg to stand on

I think A&M now does have a shot at the 4 seed now that Kiffin is out which will impact Ole Miss seeding.

Tech loses to BYU. Georgia wins the SEC:

1. OSU
2. Georgia
3. Indiana
4. A&M (IMO - They won't give the B1G 3 bye games, plus I think A&M has a better resume)
5. Oregon
6. Texas Tech
7. Ole Miss

I think if Tech wins, Georgia wins it will go:

1. OSU
2. Georgia
3. Indiana
4. Texas Tech
5. A&M / Oregon (Neither team gets a bye so it could go either way. I would still lean A&M resume over Oregon)
6. A&M / Oregon
7. Ole Miss

Things might get weird if Bama beats Georgia. Even with 2 losses they will encroach on A&M / Oregon. So you could see something like:

1. OSU
2. Indiana
3. Texas Tech
4. Alabama (Too many good wins, which overcomes their 2 losses)
5. A&M / Oregon / Georgia
6. A&M / Oregon / Georgia
7. A&M / Oregon / Georgia
8. Ole Miss

I don't know how they would shake that out, but we really need to avoid that 7th seed.

If we hold on to the 4 spot, we'd play the winner of 5v12 at a neutral site on 12/31 or 1/1, yes? You want that for our first playoff game , coming 4.5 weeks after a tough loss?

If we get seeded #5, we host UNT or Tulane on 12/19 or 12/20. If we're #6, then maybe we host Virginia on those dates, and we'd be on the opposite side of the bracket from tOSU. Not gimmes, but winnable games. Call it a chance to get in better form before facing UGa or TTU or whoever.

The 6 seed is optimal. You get a cupcake acc champion or a group of 5 if duke wins in the first round. You avoid OSU till the final

Makes no sense..committee disrespecting SOS and SOR and making subjective comments prior to tu game (about porous defense and tale of two halves vs USCe), so we are dropping at least 3 spots or more after the 'recent' loss.

We are not a trending up team at end of the season whereas the ducks, Ole Miss, ttu and others are trending up.

We were the only top 12 team to lose from bracket last week I believe and that will be held against us.

It's not really vital. You kinda have to beat them anyway if they are so great. The only thing that's vital is to have a home game in the first round which would be awesome.

The top 4 are obvious to me at this time.

1 Ohio State
2 Georgia
3 Indiana
4 Oregon

Tech, A&M, Ole Miss could be placed in any order, 5-7.

Tech has the worst loss easily. Neither Tech or Ole Miss played a good non conference opponent. A&M could easily be placed at 5.

All that being said, if A&M and Tech are put at 4/5 over Oregon. It's clearly shows they did this for a match up at the Cotton Bowl. And they want Oregon playing Indiana.

We shall see what they do.
