ND at OU will be the 8/9 matchup.

No way they are keeping us in top 4. It doesn't matter what the metrics are. They will use whatever measurement - objective or subjective - they deem necessary to justify their ranking.

Personally, I don't think we deserve top 4.

As crazy as this might sound I'm not sure being ranked number four and getting a bye is in our best overall interest.
I think being ranked fifth or six would be much better.
We get the home-field advantage and the opportunity to regain our confidence after our disastrous showing against the sips.
As I understand it the first round of the playoffs won't be till December 19 and 20th.
If we get a bye our first game won't be until December 31 or January 1.
That's a month away!
As has been pointed out on various threads all the bye teams last year lost their game.
IMO that's very easy to see happening again.
I hope we're ranked fifth or sixth.

They have lots of metrics. And they'll cite whichever ones they need to justify their choices.

We wont be ahead of Tech if they win the conference championship.

That's why I haven't even been on here since Friday.. people act as if the world has ended. Ohio State lost to a 6 win Michigan at home last year and won the national championship a month later, the season is still 1000% alive.

This. And add to the fact that ESPN has a tremendous amount of pull and influence with the committee. The committee will partially do what it is told to do.

ESPN also thinks the sips are gonna get into the CFP. So there's that.

BMX has a big flaw in his thinking. He thinks they have football reasons. Bless him.

With the way this season is shaking out with so many good teams having 1 or 2 losses and the ACC completely cratering, getting the 5 or 6 seed is likely a better path than getting the 4. You get the benefit of having played a game against a weak team going into the quarters instead of being cold for 3-4 weeks.

You just really don't want 7 or 8.

Not crazy at all, well said. Penn st and tu both made it to the semis as 5 and 6 seeds last year with easy 1st rd games.

Penn State played the #9 team in the quarter finals.
Sips played the #12 team in the quarter finals.

No chance at 4.

Very slim chance at 5.

Most likely 6 due to Kiffin leaving OM.

Possibly still 7 if committee doesn't drop OM

Kiffin has screwed Ole Miss. they are a one loss team but I believe without their coach and what sounds like all or most of their offensive staff I don't believe the committee will have them above us. I think the Aggies will be 6th. Which would have us playing Duke or Virginia at Kyle Field. Which I would love that.

Although totally bogus, the coordinated media and influencer propaganda campaign was ginned up several weeks back to attempt to make any loss a free fall for us. How effective it will be with the committee is anyone's guess.

I think we will end up being 5 or 6 in the final rankings. That being said, 7 seed would at least have us meeting Georgia in Sugar. That's better than seeing them in Atlanta. Going to have to beat them sometime, might as well be in a location that helps.
