Turned 50 on Wednesday the 26th and wife surprised me with tickets to the game with hotel. Went to the game in that ****hole. This was the experience:

First off, they have a cult centered around a steer. No arguing that. The next person who tells me Aggies have a cult, I will buy them a game ticket to that ****hole in Austin. Game was loud. They know how to do it on 3rd/4th down. Not as well as us, but they obviously got it done for their team.

Stadium itself is ok. It is nothing like ours being new and all. We did it first class.

Fans were good to us. DPS troopers and UTPD all around to deter stuff. Lots of Aggies around us. Some were relatives of life-long teasips. Interactions included fans around me in the game. They were loud and treated me with respect and talked cordially most of the game. Trips to the john were no issue. I sat in 127 the alumni area. All grads were mature and there to see the game. Wife commented that all the wives around had wedding sets much larger than hers. I am a watch guy and saw lots of Rolex Daytonas. Must really be showing off their debt. I am a well-compensated physician in a successful private practice. We don't flaunt wealth, but she noticed how teasippers do. I agree. But I digress.

Jackass(es) of the game…two younger alumni offspring fat ass, bags of **** that got there early with us (45min prior)…we sat right in front them due to the seats we bought. They kept droning on about how "Aggies weren't good for anything…only good for soldiering, working the land…a cult…maybe I should spit on the one in front of me (my wife)…etc". They made it absolutely obvious all of it was for our benefit. I turned around and said, "Enough. When you were pledging your frat, I was defending your asses in Afghanistan." They immediately apologized and the one threatening to spit, said he didn't even go there. Thanked me for my service. No more issues from them except to hear them talk about going to do lines of coke after the game. My wife is a beautiful redhead but scrappy. She would have beat his ass had he spit on her. I told her I had her bail money…cash in my pocket.

The whole game day experience there is very cartoonish and carnival-like. It seemed like a circus with a football game interspersed the commercial breaks. There were multiple cutesy-like events going on at the same time…a mariachi band playing and the camera on the steer eating various things…or the lit up phones back and forth they tried to keep going with their cheers for the 3:30 commercial break…all very made up. This is the stuff I see starting at Kyle Field. I have seen ya'll comment on this. Don't go there.

Bottom line. We lost a game we were not in the second half. It absolutely was their biggest game. Their season is over and this made it for them. I will never return there. It turned my stomach in a visceral way to see that sight. I have teasip friends who are doing well and smart and good citizens. They act like juveniles whose parents never taught them any manners in their stadium. Didn't hear the "poor aggies" at the end. Agree with input from others that no one would have made a move if I had gotten in their face. Most are limp-wristed drunks or nerds without a backbone. Made it back to the hotel/Dennys without incident. Heard more lip from t shirt fans in Wichita Falls.

I went as well and it was definitely a mixed bag.

Pregame - I went with my son who is a recent tu grad and tailgated with his friends and their families. Everyone was great and super welcoming. It was honestly one of the best tailgating experiences I've had this year, but I smoked most of the BBQ so I'm sure that helped : )

The game - Sat in the young alumni section - a risky choice. They were loud and very into the game, but I had no issues at all. Late in the game when they were loving it and high fiving everywhere they went out of their way to NOT be in my face, so they get some points for that.
As for gameday itself a carnival is a good description. Another poster described it as a variety show. Both are accurate. Every pause in game action either had some pumped in ear splitting music, a musical act, a seizure inducing light show, or their host doing his schtick. Their fans ate it up though, so they are definitely serving their customers. Don't want to throw too much shade on this as Kyle is trending the same way. Wouldn't be surprised if we have our own game show host in the next few years.

Post game - Things went downhill fast. Going down the stadium ramps and heading across campus was like enduring a walk of shame. Every frat dewsh and t-shirt loser was spewing the most mocking vile trash imaginable and were just begging for a fight. Honestly surprised I didn't see any fights, and good for Ags that didn't take the bait. They just truly seemed angry. I can't image having our biggest win of the year and being consumed with this, but this subset of their fans are truly F'ed in the head.
That being said, if our team had taken care of business none of this would have been an issue, but that's another topic.

I was there too. My wife kept saying the same thing. Felt very Hollywood/produced. Very little authentic fan energy. Over production you might say or over rehearsed.

I have typically found Texas grads to be fine. They love their alma mater, poured their heart and soul into getting a degree, and - as it was for us at A&M - it was some of their best and most formative years of their lives.

The t-shirt fans are insufferable. They have no ties to the school, they likely didn't earn a college degree anywhere (maybe Texas State), and they exhibit this air of superiority based on a football team fandom. It's really, really weird to me. I get liking a football team, but honestly believing you are somehow superior to others because of the football team you choose to like is some next level dysfunctional stuff.

You hit the nail on the head. The bandwagon fans that change team support based on win / loss record are the worst. And they really do tie their self image to a team they chose based on the team's current performance. I know one that was a big A&M fan in the 90's, then tu wins a national championship and he's wearing a hook 'em horn shirt. lol.

Having grown up in south Texas, this describes a LOT of South Texas.

We're almost there now.

Having the most unique and instantly recognizable atmosphere in college sports was not good enough.

We will be like everyone else soon, and it will be glorious.

Kinda like when those #2 maroon jerseys started flying off the shelves in 2012. Never mind we are the only school where the fans have their own unique jersey number nobody else can lay claim to. But that wasn't good enough, either.

But what did that unique and recognizable atmosphere get us? A bunch of 8-4 seasons? No shot at being an elite program? A bunch of happy old dudes in maroon sport coats? I like our traditions as much as anyone else, but on football Saturdays, I'm much more interested in what the players and students want. If the dudes on the field like the load music, then play it. If the students - the loudest part of the crowd - like rap songs, then play 'em.

Our uniqueness is neat and all, but I'm in the "I'd rather win a bunch of football games" camp.

If we ever win anything, based on what I see on TexAgs, we will have our share if this type of fan as well. Hell we haven't won anything and there are a number of folks that exhibit a high level of superiority.

OP, I was thinking of you and you wife during the ass-kicking we received in the 2H, knowing yall weren't in the Aggie section and hoping yall weren't having too tough a time

I would have been irate and seething inwardly and probably would have left after Taafe's interception

I think t-shirt fans for any school are like that. Like a lot of the LSU, Bama, Ohio State, and Auburn fans, most NFL fans, etc.

People looking to be aggrieved typically find a reason to be aggrieved. Losing has everyone feeling a little salty right now, but I have yet to take a road trip that didn't involve the need to take the higher road at some point. Don't be a hater or a whiner. Toughen up and focus on winning the upcoming playoff game.

I moved to Dallas in '81, eventually to Houston the next year. Graduated from CalState Fullerton in 1976, became an Aggie Club member in '83 and have had football tickets since. Have had baseball and softball tix off and on, but have had basketball tickets since Turgeon also and currently too. Go to 10-11 football games a year with my son (MS Business/Accounting 2011) and have a ton of Aggie friends in Texas and also a half ton in Louisiana all through steel and o&g industries. Not looking for a pat on the back, but I hope nobody ever calls me a T-shirt Aggie.

All NFL fans are t-shirt fans.
This is why I don't watch pro football. Like at all.

I think most of us know some really good and solid folks who went to Texas. They aren't the problem.

It's those utter dewsh nozzles that have no tie to Texas that create problems.

It's expected in Louisiana since LSU is the only college player in the state. ULala, LaTech, Tulane and ULM don't matter.

But the tshirt assclowns who rep Texas are dried bathroom piss-level of scum. Not even worth engaging but I'll always point and laugh at those idiots.

I dont think the term "t-shirt fan" is a pejorative in and of itself. It just so happens that when it comes to obnoxious fans, the t-shirt variety tend toward being the worst because they have nothing to lose. They can jump ship when things go sideways because they have no skin in the game. The t-shirts that stay loyal through feast and famine and represent their chosen school with class are not the problem.

As an Ag that has been around a long time, if we end up surviving to go to a playoff game in Lubbock, Texas Tech fans have been known to throw dangerous things like D Cell batteries. Its like getting hit with a hockey puck. I suggest a full coverage motorcycle helmet, if you go there. Sips are not the worst, but the clowns in Walmart burnt orange shirts are annoying.
