DKR Experience…Kyle Field Much Better

The last time I was in DKR was 2010 and things have changed.

They run their gameday experience like a variety show or some sort of cheesy musical.

They have a host, I'll call Rico Suave, who runs around in a black suit with a microphone. At different points n the game they cut to him and broadcast him on the Jumbotron doing some sort of variety show activity with popped collar of course.

Some of the acts include celebrity cameos: Glen Powell, Miranda Lambert, Matthew McConaughey and his kids, and apparently Woody Harrelson.

Some acts include music: last night it was a large female mariachi band that was featured multiple times throughout the evening on the Jumbotron.

Some acts include lights: the band had neon lights attached to their heads? They turned the stadium lights off and the band made different neon images with their marching, including a giant cowboy hat that mirrored their fake cowboy hats. Then they had drones that lit up different images in the sky. Several times they turned down the stadium lights and everyone had their phone lights turned on. And finally, the giant uterus in the south end zone lights up at different times throughout the night.

They have a giant bass drum and a tiny fake cannon that sounds like a capgun. Lots of giant Texas flags at different points that they fold and spin in different new and exciting ways. A drugged bovine steer who eats watermelon while being handled by fake cowboys. And some fat guy who rips his shirt off and does a disgusting truffle shuffle on the Jumbotron.

They pump in more sound then we do as the crowd is quieter than ours.

I do think they did a better job of using technology, lighting and the variety show strategically to distract our team. The timing for some of the more distracting elements, like turning all the lights off, always happened while we were starting out on offense for example.

All in all it felt fake and sad. And made me even madder that we lost…because the atmosphere honestly sucks. It's the perfect representation for a university that thinks they are something greater than what they are…I kept waiting for the midgets, the bearded woman and the contortionists to show up…sadly the did not.

Finally, old people like variety shows…or so I'm told. The crowd is old. Lots of old people. They limit their student pull and it shows. Olds everywhere.

Crowd: felt much angrier than Kyle. Every single penalty called against the whorns was met with extremely loud cussing and yelling by old adults. My kids were there and the adults around us didn't care at all. It was surprising and weird. The anger level was very high.

That all being said, the tailgate scene was good and the highlight of the gameday experience. However, I will not be going back. It felt fake, angry and manufactured.

Ultimately, they're just bad people. That's the difference. It's void of morality.

Many more old people live in Austin than College Station.

And they like game shows.

Our "traditions" are much better.

The ones that new Army has not managed to dispose of.

Not Yet, anyway.

Ah yes the "at least our stadium is better" cope

DKR is just Oil Can Harry's North.

Still cant believe we lost to this horrible sip team.

Actually I thought their band pregame show was pretty good and the drone show was as well. Obviously our War Hymn between 3rd and 4th quarter is much cooler than a drone show. I'd be interested to know what they do instead during a day game

Edit- not that curious

Was surprised how dumpy that place was

High school / campy environment. Not loud at all

Road games always open my eyes to how elite Kyle game day is.

Truly a dump. I cant believe they havent renovated it other than adding the uterus endzone

Was not impressed by the atmosphere at all. And getting to our section was a nightmare. Then the Ags lost.

Then I ate **** on one of those scooters.

I went to a few UNT games this year. Their production sounds similar, as far as having a host, variety show type entertainment, fireworks, and *lots* of music - good music. Not much negativity, like with penalties - I guess b/c expectations are far lower. Good time.

Agree with OP. Also, the audio of the announcer was ridiculously loud. And their fans screaming "Texas fight" during our band was typical tu classless behavior.

Variety show is an apt description. I went to their game against Sam Houston earlier in the season, and everything was exactly the same. Just feels like a very manufactured environment, strangely geared towards Mexicans and old people.

Don't make fun of their collective autism. Most of them only know those two words.

1. Crowd noise sounded way louder on TV.

2. PA announcer could be heard several times on the broadcast. Wish Wally Pryor was still alive.

The sip fans don't care as they like the experience at both stadiums.

100%

So many ****ing nerds. Meanwhile, our crowd is full of America loving attractive coeds when they decide to take the cameras off the corps

First time Back since 2010, and it reminded me of Mark Cuban running the Mavericks with Chris Arnold being the emcee during breaks to entertain the crowd. Very cheesy. I've never thought tu had a great atmosphere, but it felt more real without all the extra crap. Of course, we are headed that way too.

Austin itself has turned into a drag show. All glitz, pomp and glam. Reason why DKR reflects its city's culture.

The truth is they both suck now compared to 20+ years ago; Kyle is a beat down as well.

Rico Suave was annoying AF but totally on brand
Also tu " variety show" gimmicks work pretty well for the longer tv timeouts
Kyle is a better experience because DKR is full of t-sips & tu fans $*ck
Having their student section on the first deck in the corner gave the Jumbotron camera lots of dumb ass but highly amusing tu fans to choose from
I also liked the DKR dj better more of a dance party wedding reception vibe the Kyle dj plays the same 3-4 songs over and over

No $#!t! Poorly marked seating rows for the (same) sections on different levels.

Sounds like other SEC stadiums I've been to.
