Lotta speculation out their Collin Klein. Guess that's not happening anymore.

Sucks for UNT. They are on a heck of a run.

That'll be a long conversation but I would bet he travels and gets some money from OkSt. The guy has coached Mahomes, Mayfield, Cam Ward, etc. Would expect that this is the deciding factor that he might have some NFL level scouting and takes the long term view.

Is he leaving UNT immediately? If so, that's probably the nail in the coffin for their playoff chances.

This is good news, I thought OK State was a good option for Klein

NCAA has to make some rules and enforce them to reign in the coaches carousel before the season even ends. This will likely torpedo a great run by UNT. They have one good year in decades and can't even enjoy it.

Great hire for Okie lite, and the QB, RB and whoever else is good on UNT coming over should provide a jump start.

They did him dirty since at least Covid/BLM.

That RB from Canada that Gundy gave a chance to ruined OkieSt and Gundy was dead man walking from there.

But Gundy was just as much to blame. He showed loyalty and commitment when none was given to him.

It had to be done--Gundy burned the program down. After going 3-9 last year, Gundy was forced to clean house and bring in new coaches of his choosing while bringing in sixty players through the portal. The result: 1-10 with a victory over an FCS school. When fans complained, Gundy called them losers who couldn't pay their bills. He never apologized for it and burned a lot of bridges. He had every chance to turn things around, but he's lazy, complacent and entitled. Nobody wanted to keep him.

Yeah majority of my coworkers are okie and they feel that it was time for him to move on. Gundy elected to get fired as it ensured the university was on the hook for the buyout. They gave him the opportunity to retire at the end of the season.

I don't get how somebody can act like Gundy is getting screwed over. He'd be staring down 4 seasons of underperformance… the last 2 being severe underperformance if not for getting a weaker schedule in 2023 playing expanded Big 12 play before schools like Cincy and Houston caught up on talent to being in a bigger conference.

If any of those schools hire Klein they are in dire straits. I think he has a great future but he either needs to go G5 to prove himself as a HC or keep stacking experience at A&M similar to Elko and Kirby before making the jump.

Honestly, why aren't people lining up for Hartline? He's the reason why OSU is what they are.

Gundy was never done wrong by OSU--quite the contrary. He was given every resource a coach could need to succeed in the NIL era, and he rejected it because he wanted to do it his way, which meant developing two-star high school recruits over five years. That doesn't work now. He was a lazy recruiter and prioritized work/life balance over winning. He also got filthy rich, making almost $8M/year with automatic rollovers in perpetuity before being forced to take a pay cut. He showed NO loyalty to OSU, having flirted with Tennessee in previous years to get more contract leverage. When he was getting his tail handed to him on a a weekly basis, he broke out the "loyal and true" mantra, but when criticized by fans for becoming a weekly embarrassment, he lashed out and took the low road. He has never apologized or released a statement since his firing. It's a shame that it turned out the way it did, but that's Gundy's own doing.

He makes $2M base and probably a lot more in bonuses. So it's got to be a school willing to go significantly higher, plus offer him a realistic shot at using it as a springboard or it has to be a big school with a change your life offer. The Kirby move.

There's also the off chance he may know Day has NFL interests so he just waits it out. Who knows.

Elko was a DC in G5 for 5 years and 8 more in P4, including 2 top level schools for 3 of those. That was after spending time as as DC in the Ivy league. And Duke provided him a legit opportunity to field a winner.

Klein has been a full time OC for 4 years. Klein going to Arky seems like a mistake for both.

Yep

Only thing they can do is move both back to the week after the championship game is over, but then the portal kids don't have time to enroll for the spring at their new schools
Not sure there's much that an be done

Mid season coaching changes are being driven by the early signing day. Most top recruits have already signed by the time the season ends.
