Lanning made some comments about the SEC playing weak teams this week. It seems to be a go-to argument for Big10 fans. Specifically OSU fans on Reddit.

It's a dumb argument. Yes the Big10 plays 9 conference games, but some of the teams don't schedule a P4 out of conference game. It's not mandated by the conference like it is in other conferences. Penn State plays 9 P4 games, all in conference. SEC teams also play 9 P4 games, with one being OOC. So it's literally the same relative difficulty.

And back to Lanning, his OOC P4 game was Oklahoma State. Arguably one of the worst P4 teams.

You can maybe make an argument that having the easy game during the penultimate week helps the SEC play a more competitive rivalry week. But that's the other conferences' fault for not tactically scheduling games.

I'll give credit to teams like OSU who played 9 conference games and a hard OOC P4 game. But their argument is still overly centered on the easy game coming as the 11th game. If the SEC played all 4 OOC games in weeks 1-4, no one would be saying anything.

He played Montana St, Oklahoma St, Oregon St, Northwestern, Penn St, Rutgers, and Wisconsin and wants to talk about schedule difficulty.
His SOS is 31, but he wants to take a shot at SEC schedule? 14 SEC teams have better SOS than him and the other two are right behind him at 32 & 33.

There are just 4 SEC on SEC games this weekend because Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, South Carolina, and Texas A&M are playing cupcake games, and Mississippi State and Ole Miss are on their 2nd bye weeks. I understand that SEC teams have been playing cupcake games the week before rivalry week for the last 2 decades, but some Big 10 teams have not played a Power 4 nonconference game.
