From what I see it appears that a techtard loss in that game will knock bama out of the CFP.

Can you imagine the uproar if techtard, BYU, and Tulane are in the CFP and Bama is knocked out? Am I missing anything?

Tech will NOT lose the Big12 championship game.

I have a legitimate concern about our tenuous position … not to make the playoffs, but where we are seeded if we win out but lose to Georgia or Bama in the SEC championship game.

If this scenario plays out, would we drop out of the top 4 and get replaced by Tech (from an inferior conference) or Ole Miss? If that happens, we will probably be #5, play Tulane, and then play Ohio State.

Thoughts, anyone?

Punishing a team for making it to and losing a conference championship game is idiotic. With playoffs, they just need to get rid of these games for the leagues.that still have them.

I don't see tech losing. They have bought talent that is head and shoulders above everyone else in the BDF.
How they managed to lose to K State boggles the mind.

They lost to ASU on the road and Morton was hurt.

It will be the same as last year with the ACC. Big 12 will get 2 teams in playoff and both will promptly lose.

5 seed would play 4 seed in second round, not 1 seed. So if we lose and drop to 5, we'd end up playing Tech on a neutral field.

If we beat Texas and lose SEC championship game (without a blowout) I think we stay at #4..... and play Tech on a neutral field.

It's a bad precedent to punish teams who lose in championship games - particularly the SEC and B1G since it's often a muddle tiebreakers to see who plays the extra game. Doesn't mean this idiotic version of the the CFP committee won't do it.

If Tech loses B12 championship, then BYU is in and Tech is on the bubble - depends on what else happens.

TANGENT - I have a theory that this CFP committee has a side agenda item to create a mess that makes people want an expanded playoff.

We are going to have to play hard teams if we want to make a run in CFP. You can play games with who you play to get in to the playoffs, but eventually all that goes away. If we can't beat TU, we would only be making a deep run by dodging certain opponents. In all fairness, the teams that win a National Championship usually deserve it.

Dropping to 5 isn't the worst thing that could happen.

You get a home playoff game vs a G5 team. And a basic warmup for game vs #4.

Note that last year every team with a bye lost.
- partly because they gave byes to lesser teams (ASU & Boise). And Georgia had some injuries.... but still

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if this is the last year of CCG's. They have zero upside and all downside for either team in them in about 95% of scenarios.

There is just no reason to play them anymore now that we have a legit playoff.

There are two weeks left in reg. season, plus CGs and Army/Navy (Navy potential G5 team). As almost always happens, something is NOT going to go according to chalk/plan.

Ohio State could easily lose to Michigan and IU in B1G CG.
Bama could lose to Auburn.
UGA could lose to GT.
Ole Miss could lose to MS State.
Tech could lose in Big 12 CG to a team with 2 losses.
Army could beat Navy.

If we have learned anything it is that what it looks like in mid November is not how it will look in the final CFP poll.

For us, the USC comeback was epic. Beat Samford and we are 11-0. Even if we lose to cow (which we will NOT damnit) we will not fall lower than 8, so would be hosting a first round CFP game at Kyle Field, win that and likely in the Cotton Bowl.

PS - Both Army and Navy are now in the same conference, American Athletic, which looks to have the highest ranked G5 team, I don't see how they can kee that game so late in Dec.

Waaaaaay too much money for the SEC Championship. It will never go away.

It is a shame when all the media analysts constantly talk about the Conference Championship games being essentially meaningless and a risk. Definitely takes the pomp and circumstance out of them. Atleast for playoff contending teams which many are. Winning the Conf Champ and losing first round of playoffs would be seen as a disappointing failure

I'd prefer the 5 slot. You know the playoffs still aren't right when it's preferable to not play your conference championship game and the bye is meaningless/harmful because they don't reseed every round.

It's not insane to think that way, BUT I think the committee will understand that doing that will cause teams to potentially _try_ to avoid championship games (or at least not kill themselves to try to get to them) and that would make the conferences (notably the SEC & B10) upset.

Because of that, I think any scenario where both participants are squarely IN, you will see little movement. If Bama wins out and beats us, perhaps we move to 4 and they move to 3. Even then, I'm not sure they'd do that.

Either way, I think the committee will try to avoid having somebody drop across a significant line (bye -> no bye or host -> road) simply for losing their championship game.

I also don't think anyone will go from IN to OUT unless it is a 1 bid league. For instance, if Bama wins out and loses a close game to us, I don't think the committee will dump them from the playoff while still having UGA, Ole Miss & OU in.

If a conference title game can help you it should be able to hurt you too, especially if its not your first loss. If someone loses to Duke in the ACC championship game (not sure if that's still possible?) that team should get hammered because duke is a really bad team.

If texas tech loses two in that cakewalk schedule they should probably be ranked after every 2 loss sec, big 10 team.

Five seed is the best spot in the playoffs . Home game vs G5 then play a top team.

I'm rooting for BYU to beat TT so they both get into the playoffs. They would both deserve to get in at that point.

Tech is legit but I'm not sold on BYU or Utah. They both lost by 3 TDs plus when they played Tech. The Big 12 is really a one team show despite the records and despite the outcome of the B12 championship.

Kind of unbelievable that Tech has never won the big 12 or even played in the championship game.

Yep. Once upon a time, the Big XII was a real conference. Now it's the leftovers that none of the real conferences wanted.

This topic is on hold for the right moment of when it effectively is associated with a certain team. You all know who the 5 teams are. When that moment happens the discussion will take place.
