Whether or not LSU truly believes this "you weren't fired because that guy couldn't fire you" scenario is uncertain. What is a certainty is that it introduces doubt about the outcome of the contract resolution, even if it's a small doubt, and gives them some leverage to negotiate.

It's not just a new head football coach that has to be wary. It's all of a new staff. And even players promised NIL money.
In fact, this has to be on the minds of the coaches in every one of their sports.

Woodward, as the AD, made a public announcement firing Brian Kelly. lsu looks completely stupid, foolish and incompetent for their actions now, and they are NOT getting out of the $54 mill. they owe Kelly. He may have accepted a negotiated buyout before, but not now.
He should go coach an FCS team for $500K and just enjoy coaching while collecting all that Red Stick bayou $$.

1) Meeting was called day after A & M. Woodward"s marching orders were to get Kelly to fire Sloan to appease the fan base.
2) Kelly made it a 2 hour scream fest and refused. He even suggested he fire Davis. Said his contract said he could decide who was fired, not AD.
3) It became so confrontational, Woodward let him go due to insubordination.
4) Woodward reported what happened, and Landry freaked out.
5) Landry, who had a hard on for Woodward because of Will Wade stuff, then cuts Woodward's legs in the press conference.
6) BOS scratching their heads because Woodward was never supposed to get fired. Can't really say anything because Landry does have the power over them.
There are those that think Kelly acted that way with the intention of getting fired. He was checked out, and wanted to cash out. They are now negotiating the buyout, which is normal……but could get ugly.
Needless to say, a real ****e sandwich.

Southern fired their coach earlier this season. So they have an opening. He wouldn't have to leave Baton Rouge. Just relocate to the north side.
