This is the committee that left out an undefeated Florida state right? And tamu left out for notre dame and a team that only played 6 games. Yeah they're barely a step above the ap at this point.

The BCS was much better than this "committee."

IU plays OSU in the championship, we control our own destiny. Even if we stayed at 3 we would be paired with #2 anyway and we would solve it on the field.

But this is a college football forum and the playoff ranking is the biggest news in college football in the last 3 hours.

For sure seems like a lot of people are very bent out of shape about it

It is insane to me that he doesn't have to recuse himself given Indiana is his alma mater.

Sprinkle in the fact that he now heads up Baylor athletics is all I need to know to understand the fix is in.

For all that say it doesn't matter, remember 2020

So, here's the BAS at play.....let's just say SC beats us, and we win out or tu gets thumped by GA and upset by Arky, and we end up losing the last game to tu....And the committee uses that 1 sh*tty loss to completely take us out of the 12-team playoff. That's why some of us are upset.....

2004 was VERY VERY different environment and those in favor of BCS are saying so now in a manner that means BCS is used to determine the bracket. Not an eye test where it is how a biased committee feels about how a team looked to play

USC and OU entered that season ranked #1 and #2, respectively, and neither of them lost the entire season. I'm simply saying that the computer aspect of the BCS was better than the committee aspect of the playoff. A committee allows for serious subjectivity to enter the equation, which is why stuff such as Boise State getting a bye last year just to get trucked by Penn State happened. Humans tend to favor the "little engine that could" narrative far more than a computer. Notice that Boise State never got to play for a national title during the BCS era despite having multiple great seasons, and it was because the BCS actually took strength of schedule into account.

And all I am trying to spell out for you its that a ranking today, November 11th, is completely irrelevant an not worthy of getting so worked up

The reason that i matters is because the committee has now had two weeks to show what it is that determines their rankings. So far..

1. Strength of record doesn't matter.
2. Scheduling and winning tough out of conference games doesn't matter.
3. Barely winning against bad teams doesn't make a difference when the team next in the ranking throttles a good team.
4. Winning tough games on the road doesn't matter.
5. Throttling a team that has a joke of schedule at home can allow you to pass a team with the same record who just throttled a nobody.

Now read number 5 again in the context of Texas Tech and Ole Miss vs #3 with Indiana and A&M

It's very clear that the committee has a Big 10 and Big 12 bias when it comes to rankings. When you look at what the teams in those conferences have done, their rankings are inflated against similar SEC teams.

This matters because the final rankings will absolutely have to have decisions made that leave some teams out. The committee having a Big 10 bias while overlooking the mediocrity of the Big 12 does not bode well for a 2 loss SEC team getting in. BYU with 1 loss will absolutely be in over a 2 loss SEC team not named Alabama or Georgia.
