Looks like LSU has learned the same painful lesson that we did, how long before Woodward is done as an AD?

I can't help but think there's some type of kickback scheme going on underneath these contracts.

The governor just made the LSU job less appealing.

The surest thing Landry can do for reelection is get LSU football back on track.

Then again, if it doesn't work . . .

they were talking about this on houston radio this morning...heard something interesting.....and it sure is rotten!!

Woodward's agent is....wait for it......jimmy sexton.

we all know he represents pretty much everyone including Jimbo and Kelley.

so from a transparency and accountability...and a common sense perspective, if he's the AD and potential candidates are represented by sexton he most certainly shouldn't be involved

LSU looks like a complete dumpster fire right now. If their governor is involved in the athletic department's business, no way they get a coach or AD worth a damn. But then again, that state produces more NFL talent than anyone, so they might fall backwards into luck, but I doubt it. I think they're about to fall back to a pre-Saban type of outlook.

The governor is involved because (as I understand) the school is currently without a President. The Interim or Vice or whomever cannot do these big contracts, so it falls to the governor.

But it certainly adds an element of politics in a state with big financial issues.

No president at LSU and It seems pretty obvious the 3-4 guys actually funding prefer dealing with Governor instead of Woodward

This is blatantly false

I have a feeling that LSU is about to screw that program up beyond repair. People are pretending that LSU wasn't just another school before Saban showed up. I remember A&M spanking them on the regular during the Denardo regime. Hopefully we are back on that trajectory.

People need to be better equipped to understand political BS. The governor is ranting about problems that he is powerless to fix. It makes for a great sound bite and rally's support but what is his plan? LSU is free to exclude any coach represented by Jimmy Sexton. He's also free to draw a line and not offer a competitive contract and take a stand against expensive long term deals. He may not like how that turns out for LSU. There is a reason you don't see the governors involved in hiring and firing coaches.

I don't really understand LSU's long-term money problems. Tons of oil money in the state, and LSU is the only program they have that matters.

But an earlier poster is right. The governor getting involved just made it a hell of a lot tougher to hire anyone worth hiring. They could be up sh** creek for years to come.

You are spot on. The politicians always want to be upfront when things are going well, but never the responsibility when the trains jump the track.

If I'm a coach, I'm looking at the internal politics of that position with all of the infighting between the state, the president, the AD, and the boosters and saying **** no.

Exactly. If they have enough ingrained dysfunction that they end up sending a proven boss like Tommy Moffitt out on the street, it seems like you'd be crazy to make any long-term plans based on your dealings with them. And it's not like lsu is particularly corrupt; the whole state and its culture have been known for centuries for being thoroughly corrupt, and it'd also be insane to expect something as emotionally important as lsu football to be exempt from said statewide insanity.

If you're Scott Woodward, don't you have to resign for the sake of pride? Your employer is going to perform one of your essential job duties and exclude you.

Resign and state that you're uncomfortable leading an athletic department where there is interference from elected politicians. And apparently a very confused politician in terms of who represents all of the relevant parties.

I fail to see the downside of this scenario.

Not necessarily.

The reason why the governor in LA is somewhat involved is because currently lsu doesn't have a system president (they are operating under an interim president). That means most of, if not all, of the administrative power lies with their Board of Directors - all of whom are appointed by the governor of the state.

So until a president is appointed, the governor does have some power and sway over decisions made concerning the school.

That being said, that only applies really if the football coach is a direct employee of lsu and not through a booster club, which many schools do in order to avoid having politicians be involved in coaching contracts or to avoid pay limitations on state employees, etc.

LSU football doesn't have a money problem. Plenty of big donors. Louisiana as a state has a money problem though.

If he resigns, he doesn't get that sweet $6 million buyout. Yes, he has a big buyout in his contract, too.

Ironically (or not), his contract is fully guaranteed.

* Not a lawyer so I could be wrong. Maybe someone who understands lawyernese can chime in.

There is a mitigation requirement and offset, so, no, it's not nearly as onerous as the Jimbo buyout.
