Ohio state shouldn't be #1. That's media bias at its best. They should look more like Indiana if they were.

Imo, its us and Indiana who hold the better claims to first place votes.

Their 14-7 win against tu is looking more and more pathetic as the weeks go on. Florida managed to put up 4x as many points on them as ohio state did, even Kentucky & Miss State scored more.

When you look at it objectively, ohio state's best win of the season is a 7 point win against the 7th ranked SEC team. Let that sink in.

To be fair, Bama lost game one to FSU. Teams improve during the season. tOSU and Bama are both good. The National Championship seems wide open.

While I objectively agree, I am OK with Ohio State being number one on account of them being the defending champs and still undefeated.

Agreed. Plus it was game one. As someone mentioned above, teams get in rhythyms and better as seasons go on. I would bet Ohio St wins that game by more now. But they handled business. I don't like how IU jumped us when we haven't lost and have better wins but now they won't let us jump them back.

This playoff plan pretty much guarantees that the best team in the country will be included in the playoffs.

But I do see that the season is getting long. Like the pros (the 'other' pros?), the teams need to have players that can cover injuries over the long season.

I dont think last should have much to do with this year. That's how we get teams like Texas and lsu and Clemson with absurd rankings to begin with.

I mean if preseason rankings are a thing- there has to be some sort of criteria to decide who is where. I think a defending champ has a claim to number 1 at the start of the season.

So, when do we get polls/rankings? And when we get them, what is their basis for legitimacy? I would side w/you in saying last year doesn't have reference to the following year, but these models need a starting point to legitimize their rankings for this year.

Let's talk about the above poll. Assume the season ends today. In a 12 team playoff, we get the winner of Oregon/Texas Tech. Which team is better? I think we can beat either one, based solely on what I've seen to date. I haven't watched any of Texas Tech & only watched OT of Oregon/Penn St & the end of IU beating Oregon in Oregon. But we're still better.

Bama looked pretty average at USCe last week.

I think there's something to be said for parity in the SEC. Records aren't fully indicative of the talent teams have. The portal has certainly factored in. I think you could take all these teams, have them play each other a couple times, and everyone would have 1-2 losses:

Us
Bama
TN
Georgia
Ole Miss

Yep, they would have lost save for a few fortuitous calls from the refs.

They have only given up 41 pts all season - we did that in one game against piggy. And 40 to Notre dame. Couple that with defending champs and there is not much to argue with.

Seems like Ohio State dared Texas to beat them, and Texas couldn't. Ohio State's focus was to not give away the game.
