Per usual, it's not the instigation, but the reprisal that gets the foul, especially literally over the head of the ref.

Retaliation

He was pushed by the WR after the play was effectively over - this was shown on camera. You see him turn around to confront the WR but the camera zooms in the ball carrier. Once the play is dead, several LSU players point in his direction.

Yes, they showed a clip of it during the miscues reel.

He literally reached over the ref and slapped the guy across the head.

Off camera there was an altercation between Ricks and a lsu WR with a ref standing between them and Ricks retaliated and was called extending the drive that led to points.

Pure stupidity.

It didn't help that Rick's retaliated by shoving the LSU player with the ref standing between them. Probably lucky he didn't get ejected.

I'm sure Elko gently and politely requested to alter that behavior….

Reeds quote about Elko's HT speech is priceless "…. It was aggressive, for sure!"

Agreed. On replay, he made significant contact with the official to smack the LSU player. Anyone saying this was a BS call is wrong. We were fortunate it wasn't worse.

Elko - "oh I just told them that they're the better team and they need to start playing like it".

I thought it was BS until the replay in the third. Ricks literally whacked the guy in the helmet with the ref standing in front of him. Boneheaded play to say the least.

It was dumb but it wasn't like he clubbed him. Looked like he slapped his helmet. Refs should ah e let that go. LSU guy was not going to get hurt from the ***** slap.

Refs are never going to let that go when it is right in front of them.

That penalty made me so angry. But Ricks played very well in the 2nd half so I was able to move on.

As a teacher, I've used this hypothetical so many times when students get into with each other. The "he hit me first" excuse is always the first thing out of their mouths. I'll say, "if a football player hits somebody, and the other guy hits him back, who gets the penalty?" They'll pause, and I'll say "always the second guy". Fair or not, it's true. Our guys have to be smarter than that, especially when it turns a 4th and long into an automatic 1st.

He did make a great 4th down stop in the 2nd half that we gave him credit for on the game thread.

As a fan with no knowledge of how he is coached, his pass protection is often frustrating to watch as he rarely plays the ball and thus gets PI calls that look like they could be easily avoided if he turned to look for it. With that said, he does do a very good job staying close to his assigned receiver.

Can these 15 yd unsportsman penalties count for individual Cabo fund?

Or maybe the player has to run wind sprints for each penalty yard.

If you let that one go, you have to let all head slaps go and eventually you get fights repeatedly on the field. There is no way this one would not be flagged.

If an LSU player did this to an A&M player, can you honestly tell us you wouldn't say a flag is warranted?

I enjoyed how LSU can spike the football in the end zone and throw the football into the stands and no penalty. This league is so lopsided and corrupt on their application of the rules.

Still waiting to hear that LSU was fined $50k for an injury timeout after the setting of the ball.

I believe this is the 3rd personal fowl penalty against Ricks this year. Ricks must have a bit of a short fuse. I have wondered how proper coaching handles this kind of issue.

1. The LSU dude was legitimately hurt, concussed, or whatever.

2. No one on the LSU sideline was telling him to hit the deck.

3. Because of #1 and #2, LSU was only penalized the loss of a timeout.

Wish you wouldn't keep bringing that back up. We were 100% guilty and it's embarrassing for our program. Unfortunately we chose to be the first team to get caught, pulling that stupid stunt, after the new rule was made.
I noticed coaches put a hand on a down player near the sidelines vs LSU. He was getting up and they held him down while watching the clock for a sec.. I need to go try to find that.

Wow. thanks for the info. Some penalties are just mind-boggling as far as the inabilit of a player to check their emotion.

A player that wouldn't dream of getting burned on purpose has no problem effectively giving them a turnover, because he wants to do something that he knows could result in basically a turnover.

Even if a player wants to be selfish, does he not unerstand NFL scouts are taking note?

Comical how many posters on the game thread were acting like it was a 100% bogus penalty because the camera zoomed in and missed it. They'd rather believe all refs hate us and want us to lose than think something can happen outside the camera angle.

have we ever heard Rick's be interviewed?… freak athlete, but does stupid stuff every play that comes his way.. just get up and go to the next play.. don't need the seatbelt, tweety bird, no fly, every single play.. save it for when you actually did something.

I liked how in the 2nd half, A&M players on the sideline would grab and hold back Ricks or whoever so there's zero chance we get a personal foul. Lol
ironmanag
How long do you want to ignore this user?
We were not guilty. Chappell had a cramp tried to get to the sideline and one of our staffers told him to sit down just like 100's of coaches do every week. The coaches didn't want Chappell out there cramping against that offense.

Ricks is a ticking time bomb out there whether it's getting beat or committing a stupid personal foul penalty.
