Man really wants to coach next year. Probably lands somewhere given all the openings. Does his buyout go down if he takes another salary?

Nah. Guaranteed

Nope. Fully guaranteed. We're paying him $7.2MM every year until 2031!

From what I understand, no. We didn't include any of that language in his contract. It was a complete failure on our side

No way, people started including that in the contract after they saw how we fumbled the jimbo deal

Buyout offsets were already a thing. We just had an idiot as the AD negotiating the contract.

Been in contracts for a long time. Just not the one we gave Jimbo.

why was Woodward the idiot? Seems to me the approvers of Woodward's negotiations with his buddy Jimbo's agent were the idiots.

Edit: I am the idiot because it was Bjork not Woodward but the approvers own the blame here.

I think we had a buyout offset in Fran's contract. But he didn't feel like coaching until he was paid in full

Word of the day is "plethora".

Example: A plethora of idiots were involved in structuring and approving Jimbo's contract.

We did, but Jimbo's contract did not have such a thing.

Some other team is going to partially offset Jimbo's salary with payment in aggiebucks.

Too much concern about HR and contract management.

Crazy enough, Billy Napier didnt have any offset clauses in his contract either, so UF owes him his entire buyout amount even if he gets another job. You would think an experienced AD like Scott Stricklin would've included that clause when hiring a coach from the Sunbelt conference with limited HC experience.

I was flipping channels last Saturday and saw him on the ACC GameDay show. I busted out laughing because he was giving a tutorial on how to develop quarterbacks.

The school that hires him wouldn't even have to pay him and he would still be one of the highest paid coaches in college football.

Now, feel free to blame the idiots that signed off on it.

His next employer might be able to pay him less than market because Jimbo already has a 7.2mm side hustle

I went to the Duke-Illinois game last month and saw the back of some guy's head on the ACC set and said, man, that looks like Jimbo. Then he opened his banjo mouth and left no doubt. The set was probably too high for anyone to see me behind him with the thumbs down, and I refrained from yelling out "fraud!" but I wanted to.

Evan Saban in his last raise and extension already had that in his contract.

Beyond lunacy we did not have that in Sumlin and Jimbo contracts.

The contract amount is 100% guaranteed but the offset language means we aren't on the hook for 100% of it if he gets a new job.

The Wlko contract is perfect and how they should all be gojng forward.

In fairness to not including offset language in the contract, I think it is fairly easy to get around that. While it would, of course, be highly dependent upon the wording of the contract, the new school might be able to get around the offset by paying an entity (especially one with multiple members) instead of the coach directly or by issuing a promissory note in lieu of salary.

Carefully worded offset language should prevent something like that, but if it just says something like "if coach takes another job, the buyout amount will be reduced by ..." The vast majority of contracts written contain fairly simple language -- or, at least, they don't provide many provisions that cover things that aren't foreseen or anticipated.

And so many here are clamoring for Elko to get a raise and extension.

Keep in mind the 2026 football schedule:
Bama (away)
OU (away)
AZ State
t.u
UT
LSU (away)
Mizzou (away)
Arkansas
South Carolina (away)
Kentucky

I could see all of this going very wrong but I hope not

Woodard IS partly responsibly here. When Bjork wanted to renew and re-up the contact it has to be better and juicier than what Woodard gave him just a few years prior.

That is ****ing bull**** if we have to go on the road to both Mizzou and LSU two years in a row.

Yes, the Jimbo contract was terrible the moment it was signed. And yes, we should be angry at the leaders who allowed it to happen.

BUT, on the bright side, I'd rather be paying Jimbo and Elko a combined $14 million right now than I would be paying Brian Kelly or Bill Belichick $10 million individually.
