It seems like Reed isn't a great short or mid passer. If you look at his stats, he only threw a 47% completion rate yet had 360 yards. Pretty crazy statistic if you really think about it. I think if he can learn to take a little zing off the ball and not let it sail, he's going to be an absolute force to be reckoned with.

Reed still got the job done, and I think O'Neill may have some real talent for throwing long passes.

That stat says allot about our WR's and how much extra effort they put in.

A qb can have great completion % by throwing lots of short passes that are easy to complete that don't make many yards. When you throw lots of longer passes like Marcel did last night your percentage will be much lower, but he makes lots of large gains.
He missed at least 3 long passes that would have been probably tds.

At least he didnt have 10 straight incomplete passes

He's not the best, but he gets it done. And he can run.

Cmon. Stop poring thru stats. All of it is based on the situations he found himself in, including being hurried. Dude was a winner. Good on him all the way around. Tough sob too.

the deep ball is almost all you need

He's actually just fine at short and intermediate throws. And he's decent enough at the deep ball.

Once moss gets fully back in tune and defenses have to choose which option to stop, we will really be unstoppable

Actually except for the deep ball to Conception most were short to intermediate Cavers frist TD was 73 yards YAC alone

I thought he did well, and his upside looks tremendous. He missed ~3 deep shots that probably would've all gone for 6, but they weren't far off.

It's his first year as the full-time starter. He's going to get better and better.

You have it backwards

That is likely the best defensive backfield we'll play all year. He was oh so close on 2 deep balls that would have made the night legendary. He's developing, he's a gamer, and a leader.

Can't wait to see what he and the team do next.

Reed does pretty good (~ 60%) out to 20 yards. Past 20 yards, it's a coin flip. He's made some really good long (> 20 yds) throws, and some really bad ones...... again, it's a coin flip. Our OC should call pass plays accordingly.

He kinda reminds me of Mond........ just saying.

Reed definitely needs a good QB coach to help him out with touch and accuracy on the long throws, and I'm not convinced we have one.

He hasn't proven to be a consistent passer yet. But hes proven to be a playmaker as of now and I'll gladly take that.

Stat from one of the reaction podcasters (Southeastern16 maybe?) - Reed simultaneously had averages of >20 yards per completion and <10 yards per attempt.

A lot of the long completions were only short or mid range but lots of yac balloons the avg per completion. Which was over 20yds ! Great efficiency

2 of 9 on passes over 20 yards. So deep is not his thing.

You do realize that it's easier to complete passes short or medium when you have guys who can get off ball quick and get separation right?

I don't wish this on Reed and he is certainly tough but he has gotten dinged up the last two games. I hope Elko is putting some time in with QB2 and that QB2 is taking his role seriously and will be ready if needed. Hopefully, with the bye, Reed can heal up (really, everyone) and we have some flexibility on reps. Ideally, I'd like to see us curb stomp Auburn early and get QB2 a bunch of game reps.

He's pretty good at 11 yard passes on 4th down with the game on the line. 1 for 1

Unlike Mond, when he hits those slants, it's usually on the money and the receiver can keep running. Mond used to drive me nuts with how many times our receivers would have to fall down to make a catch and limit things to a short gain.

This offense is going to be deadly once Reed can hit the deep ball

YAC yardage made up a ton of our passing stats. Which isn't a bad thing at all. Love watching those little dudes catch it in stride and keep running

Both can be true. I liked what I saw out of Marcel. But, the deep ball issues are real. He must improve. If he does, look out...

Same for the defense. Alot to like about the game. But (for me) the zone defense in critical moments, yikes.
Must improve.

Also some effort issues late in the game. The run down the sideline soft touch missed tackle that led to the 80 yardish TD was terrible. That effort would have consequences on the 7th grade b team. It changed the game. Ultimately we hung in for the W but that has to go away, fast.

I disagree. His short to intermediate throws were very impressive! His deep ball is getting closer but still needs a little work. Where he needs to really work on is throwing on the run. He really needs to set his feet.

Finally, his decision making was good at times but also poor at times. He took too many chances of throwing to a spot in HOPE for a play. A few of those could have been interceptions bc he was basically treating them as risky throw aways.

He won and hit on some big plays. Don't forget a 40 yard pass that Concepcion should have caught on the 1st drive also.

What I like is the balance and takngshots to keep the LB's and safeties honest. Btwn his ability to run, requires a spy, his willingness to go deep, keeps safeties deep and corners on soft coverage, and a powerful running attack, it puts tremendous strain on a defense.

Reed isn't too far off with his deep ball. He also is much more accurate if he is in the pocket. We can be a handful with where we are now but a little improvement here and there and this offense can be off the charts good.

Reed's throws are on line but just a yard or two too long.If he just put a little more air under them, the receivers would be able to run under them.

Reed is actually very good on the short and intermediate passes (outside the numbers). He has improved on his deep ball this year.

exactly. even the interception if he get air under it might have been an Ok pass.

This. he's 3 games into his sophomore season. He's only going to get better from here and while he was hot and cold Saturday he came thru at crunch time.

The comparison to Mond is a bad one imo. Reed is
Much much more intuitive and he processes and makes decisions much faster than Mond ever did
