I haven't seen anybody torched for thinking Elko is an okay but not great coach. He's…fine… and will get us to 7-9 wins a year. But he'll never win anything meaningful.
His players will continue to cash big NIL checks and never win anything meaningful either. And they're playing like they know that's the deal. Half the team didn't seem mentally switched on and ready to play.

I think several million dollars of roster upgrades per year would be making Elko look a lot smarter if we had just let Jimbo go and promoted Elko. Wouldn't have been Kirby smart but many of our issues stem from firing Jimbo "early."
this is a tough place to grade a coach.
whatever tier he's thought to be coming in you can pretty well count on a letter grade worse performance on the field.

I think it can be argued he's a B tier coordinator. He had one really good D when he was here under Jimbo. The other years were ok, but it's not like we were a top 5 D every year.

I do think the fan base is part of the problem. We want to be seen as being a nice fan base, who does things the right way. We don't need to be hanging coaches in effigy, but also we shouldn't shower praise on a coach after he beats a DII school.
