Did anyone come across the religious guy with the speaker on volume 500 in front of the MSC?

We were just trying to enjoy the band and Corps marching by and this A hole was screaming on a bullhorn. It was so loud it overpowered the band - he was annoying the living hell out of everyone around.

I am ALL for the 1st Amendment, but there is a point where someone's freedom of speech should not infringe on my right to peacefully enjoy the pre game activities.

Yes. And I completely agree.

Speech is freedom. I'm all for it.

That said, I don't think setting up a bullhorn and yelling anything max volume at passers by is freedom. That's harassment and noise pollution.

And it's certainly not converting anybody.

Should be a noise ordinance, maybe a water gun into the bullhorn might cool him off, just saying...

The worst part about it is, I don't think he's changing anybody's mind about religion. Imagine dedicating your whole life to doing something like this because you think you're bringing people closer to God, but in the actuality, you're just screaming at a bunch of people that are probably are going to be in church tomorrow.

Honestly, it's just kind of ridiculous and sad.

If you can regulate second-hand smoke you should be able to regulate second hand noise. That guy has a right to free speech but take the microphone and speaker away and make him yell all day.
And as an aside, his whole schtick was about fearing God. Do you fear God?? You should fear God!! You don't fear God enough!!!
Whatever religion he's peddling, I'll pass.

He's been doing it for a couple of years, at least. I feel bad for his kids - they're really young and are always just standing there in the heat listening to their dad go on crazy religious rants. My son always jokes about them because two years ago he was ranting about being on the cusp of world war 3, so every time we hear him my son asks if we've gone hot, yet.

Howso?

Did the fathers of the constitution have irritating loud electrified bullhorns in mind when they wrote the 1st amendment?

Like everyone has the RIGHT to do THAT at all times?!

Permits are required for amplified sounds so if it was really that big of an issue and we want to stop them let's demand the university require permits and enforce that

It's actually stated on the University website about allowed public assemblies that you are not allowed to use a horn in public spaces (outside) if it disrupts a class inside a building. You would think they could extend that to "sanctioned" outdoor events like corps march-in or something. Probably have to left him alone after that, but there should be some reasonable restrictions.

Yeah. Because he's a crazy person and we all know 100% how that would go.

He'd end up a martyr or whatever and "talking to him" would only encourage him.
Seamaster

An idea - set up a group of students. Give them some cash.

They go out and buy an even louder system and they just follow him around and wherever he stops, they stop 10 feet from him and blast salsa music or something louder than his clap trap.

It's not about converting people.
It's about attention to him.
He brings the entire family out to sit there, and generate that woe is me vibe.

The words in the Bible explicitly state not to do, what he is doing.

Move along.

No one has complained about what he was saying and that he shouldn't be allowed to say it…it is the volume and the use of equipment to amplify that volume in a public area. That's not protected under the constitution

Correct but now it's even worse and two younger guys down the way from the MSC closer to the East Side entrance across the street.

I'm a Christian and find them to be absolutely repulsive.

I'm more saddened by the 5 and 3 year old having to stand there beside their Dad while everyone else in functioning society walks about and stares at them and just shakes their collective heads.

Condeming people to hell over a bullhorn as they are walking to a football game is not the way to win friends and influence people.

I would think anyone "peacefully protesting" would need a permit to do this in this location.

OP, those folks have been there for years. First game in awhile?

Agree with your overall sentiment. I walked by that dude today and my very catholic and Latin mother in law who I was introducing the A&M GameDay experience for the first time had no idea why he was telling us not to worship the team inside the stadium and instead worship Jesus the way he should be and generally ****ting on people for just walking around and being there. I hate having to explain his nonsense, but I also love this country and his ability to do his nonsense. Something her home country could never imagine.

Amen on all fronts.

My best friend I was walking to the game with last weekend has seen these guys and he's not a Christian and they just make him roll his eyes to the point of wanting to never be converted.

Messaging matters and these dudes are the equivalent of Code Pink to me.

There was a guy out there before George Strait concert. Everyone was like hooray Jesus, then the guy started talking crap about George, because there is only ONE true king and somehow going to the concert was blasphemous.

he lost us. Bridge to far, brother

IIRC the Brazilian and Mexican fans just drowned his ass out during that soccer game because those ****ers were chanting and dancing everywhere inside and out of the stadium. Maybe we should try that.

Yes, but inside the Mexican fans kept getting the game stopped because of racist and homophobic chants. It's a real conundrum.
