We can't even get the top paid players to play decent football.

What is it?
the most cool guy

Been that way for years. I don't know. We'll never know.

The best thing for this program is for Utah state to win. Everyone knows deep down that Elko isn't the guy. We don't need to waste 4 more years before hitting the reset button.

Its embedded into the program, its the culture. I place a lot of the blame on the fans. Instead of demanding greatness, we have too many concerned with

1. Traditions
2. Beating t.u

And then thumping our chests over attendance, stadium size, amenities, uniform selections, logos, and anything else you can think of that doesn't matter

That's been our mantra for some time. However, no effort is made to identify the issue(s), nor change anything.

A&M has some of the best fans in the country. That isn't holding the team back.

Who are our "top-paid players" ?? Lol

I'm guessing you're about to name someone who wasn't recruited by the top SEC teams.

Elko could lose this game but go 9-3 next year and we'd give him an 8 year / $12M per year extension.

He's right though. As long as the stadium is packed, the individuals making decisions stay put, all while making enormous amounts of money. Im not talking about Elko either.

The Aggie football program is one of the biggest money makers in college football and they're doing it with ZERO championships because our fanbase cares too much about nonsense

Elko is a proven, winning coach. You can't turn a program around at a place like Duke unless you're a competent coach.

I agree our culture is a big part of the problem. We care too much about being nice and hospitable. But then our admin systemically accepts mediocrity and throws money around thinking that will solve the problem.

Mediocre admins don't engage in effecting politicking behind closed doors. Mediocre admin don't push back on SEC realignment. We need a winning admin. Loftin understood it.

Something whorn is very good at is effective politicking. I've seen it firsthand. They are sharks when it comes to expanding their influence and they benefit greatly from it.

This is a misreading of the situation which is adjacent to the truth.

For most of our history, we prioritized other things besides winning football games at all costs: things like character development for instance, and putting resources into Corps. We managed to outperform given those constraints, but it was always going to be hard to be at the level of a school like TU that liked the notoriety and thus prioritized it more. The concern with beating T.U. was in a sense a statement that we believed that focus on the right things would triumph in the end.

That didn't translate to a lot of championships, but I am okay with that. The tradition we built was bigger than football and focused on people, not trophies.

That has changed though with an administration (the "rich smart people who knew nothing about athletics") that over a decade valued flash over substance. We emptied ourselves of everything that made us unique, but have refused to go all the way to build the hedonistic culture you need to win in the NIL days. We now just nod our heads to our traditions and to a win-at-all cost mentality.

It's frustrating to have sold your soul, but not enough to at least get a prize from the devil. The good news in my mind is that the NIL days will not last long, so I am happy that we are not completely eroding our foundations like many schools are.

This is likely one source of angst on this board:

It takes a special kind of brainwashed useful idiot to politically defend government fraud, waste, and abuse.

You cried about a game where the yardage difference is 311 to 61 at halftime buddy. There is something wrong with you. Why watch if you cant even enjoy wins? Every years and every game sucks if you have to live every moment through a "will we win a national championship" lens for some reason.

It's kind of hard to play in the defensive secondary if you have no clue where the ball is. Have any of our coaches thought about telling the players to occasionally turn around to find out where the ball is being thrown?

I'll carry the original point another step...

There is something wrong with our whole athletic program. We are nice and competitive in everything we do and that seems to be acceptable. Next week we are going to get our ass handed to us if we play this bad.

Hey Einstein, you think every other school doesn't "have rich smart businessmen" that are heavily involved in their program? Yours is one of the dumbest hot takes I've ever read on this site. And that's saying something. Envious much?

Bama are ready to burn down their program over DeBoer, after one year and one game. Our extremely loyal fans may be part of the problem. A half empty stadium definitely sends the message that the status quo is unacceptable.
