Recruiting this year has been very good, but we don't have any 5 stars. We are full of 4 stars, some high, which is a good mix of hard work, skill and humility. A 5 star or two would be great/.

The Texas A&M Aggies are now the projected favorites to land one of the top two-way players in the 2026 class.

As one of the biggest months on the recruiting calendar kicks off, the Texas A&M Aggies already have a strong foundation in place for another top-10-ranked recruiting class. With 11 commits thus far, the Texas A&M 2026 class already ranks No. 6 in the nation, and if a recent prediction about a five-star prospect is correct, the Aggies could jump into the top five.

In a recent article from Rivals' Adam Gorney, the insider put in a prediction for five-star Louisiana native Lamar Brown to land at Texas A&M.

"Brown will be at Miami this weekend, and that could get interesting fast. But this still feels very much like a two-team race between LSU and Texas A&M, and heading into June, the Aggies hold the lead, ..." Gorney writes. "But it seems as if Texas A&M has taken the lead for Brown selling him on playing on the defensive line and that could be a big factor."

it really hasn't been about who we get but what we do with them.

Also there is very little point in following recruiting early any more. Too much flux. They've gotten worse about not being "committed" coupled with getting outbid down the road.

Start investing some time into following it after Thanksgiving. Waste of time until then.

I think some of this is can be summarized by "Not all five stars are created equal." Some of the 5 star talent that we have gotten in the past had 0 star work ethic and 0 star attitude.

As long as the portal is wide open it is hard to guess whether a talented high schooler is here long enough to have an out of proportion impact.

Some of that is front loading their use and how to shift them from high school to top-level college competition.

There also is the question of whether our school's historical "stickiness" fr traditions and community and our network of former students is truly an advantage in this era or not. My guess is schools with more recognition at athletic success (whether deserved or not) are more likely to benefit from the portal and transfers just like the Yankees and Dodgers do (though very much not like the Cowboys…) Yes I'm suggesting it's traditional hacks of NCAA rules that built that advantage.

My guess is the 5 star athletes care more about money and NIL deals.

don't know if this kid can really play,what his work ethic looks like, or how long he would be in the maroon and white jersey but i will take him especially if it means LSU or texas isn't getting him. at least initially.

please wake me up if this recruit commits, signs, enrolls and goes to first 5 days of classes
in whatever year he attends....and he is not injured.

Damn, why do y'all even open this thread. I hope we land this kid, he sounds like a beast. Just because we landed a bunch of busts in the past doesn't mean we should just be happy with 3*'s

Easier to believe when all are signed...as it's all speculation until then (even those 'verballed' today). There's a ton of recruiting pressure applied to a few of our 'commits' now (form tu, Michigan, LSU and a few other) and some are starting to listen (have mentioned this in other threads).

Hence, none of this matters until signed, but that's even iffy with players even challenging signing after the fact or only going to stay a year.

It will probably only get worse. Either the Ags finally break the 2 million year drought or staff bans 90% of the board

Gotta give Elko credit right now, he is doing very well in recruiting with his first full year's class. We are #7 in 247 but in average we are #5. If he can land that 5-star and continue the trajectory he is on then this could be a top 5 class.

If he can develop talent (unlike Fisher) and continue filling in spots from the portal then we could be really good in a couple of years.

Well... yeah.

I became pretty pessimistic about pretty much all our sports a while ago. I let go, stopped paying so much attention. I stopped bringing up sports with my brother and dad. I don't watch football every weekend, only pay attention to game threads for baseball, and basketball is an occasional thing to tune in on.

And even for me, this year has been a beating. Our athletic department is a clown fiesta.

With football's end season collapse, baseball's implosion, and softball's record setting exit from the postseason, the only way this season could have been more of a joke overall is if basketball had lost in the first round. This is a fairy tale season for A&M sports, just the script was written by a longhorn fan.

If they do sign with us, and don't start and/or get significant playing time right out the box, they'll hit the portal before the bowl games.

You still have to bring in great classes to win. This would be a good get. Once that commit hits the monthly check starts so it's a catch 22 makes class look great and it helps with other guys. But you could pay this guy 5 months and he never signs. After the Longstreet fiasco from last Cyclye I won't hold my breath.

It's not that. Instead of choosing which school to attend because of the coach, the prospects for starting, the prospects for developing into an NFL talent, the campus, the traditions, the looks/cooperation of the coeds, etc., it's become a question of which school's alumni can come up with the most money.

And by the way,"if I get a better offer elsewhere next year, I'm leaving anyway".

Hard for some us to get worked up and excited over it.

Agree. It's hard to look at any high school prospect with any sort of long term view these days.

If you're going to get excited about players on the roster, you need to wait until fall when you actually know who is on the team (for that season).

Hopefully, we can land Lamar Brwon and retain and develop him. Even in the NIL and transfer portal era, you still need to recruit great players with good work ethics and attitudes to win. If Elko can develop and retain these recruits and fill the depth from the transfer portal, we could become a great team in 2027.
