2025 Aggie Offense - Pass based, Run based or Balanced

In 2024 the Aggies Offense produced a Passing First approach (slightly unbalanced):

-- 2,734 Passing yards - 52%
-- 2,545 Rushing yards - 48%

With 70% of the passing going to WR and 30% to the TEs & RBs.

* WR's produced - 1,920 receiving yards - 70%
* TE's produced - 521 receiving yards - 19%
* RB's produced - 293 receiving yards - 11%

In 2025 I feel this will change to a slightly Running First approach based on
returning Offensive Line & Stable of RBs and not a 50/50 balanced on Offense:

Possibly running the ball as much as 55% of the time (RBs or QBs) .
and possible passing the ball to our WRs, TEs & RBs only 45% of the time.

Your Thoughts Appreciated...

Calling last year a pass-first offense is silly. It would make more sense to compare pass attempts to rushing attempts. Passing always yields more yards than rushing, so yardage isn't a good comparison.

Agreed. Pass-first means the greater % of offensive snaps being pass plays, not greater total yardage.

Yeah, according to ESPN, the breakdown for our 2024 season is this:

Passing Attempts: 361 (40.7%)
Rushing Attempts: 526 (59.3%)

So we were a run-first offense, and it seems from Elko's outbursts toward Klein during the ND game and his approach to the QB position in the offseason we intend to stay that way for 2025.

It's like he wants to re-create 2023 Michigan or one of the pre-Kiffen Bama offenses

The real question is will Reed tip the defense on run-pass with position of his feet at the snap.

Would also like to see the breakdown by down/distance. It always seemed to me that we ran the ball on 2nd down at a very high % - no matter the distance needed to gain a 1st down.

So…more bubble screens???

I think a big key to the offense having success will be health. If we can keep the same core group of players in a steady rotation, the offense will just work so much better in spite of what all yall feel about Klein.

I mean, last year, we have the back and forth at QB, we used three different guys at Center due to injuries, we lost one of our best backs for virtually the whole year and the other and probably best back for the last 4-5 games, and we lost our most talented OL for 4-5 games. There was just never a time when the offense could work themselves into a good rhythm.

And as is always the case, the ceiling for this offense will depend on how good this extremely experienced OLine performs.

The real real question is does that matter?

Can we just have our offense be "WIN" based?

Nothing but bubble screens! We can adjust the throw to be slightly behind the line of scrimmage if we need more run plays.

If only we weren't "cursed" by injuries every season.
It never fails. Injuries happen, but to us, it is always the worst-case scenario.

Or we could have continued to try and throw the ball downfield with an inaccurate QB and receivers who could not create any separation on their own.

How many teams in the SEC lost their starting QB and RB? I'll hang up and wait.

Of the teams that did well last year, only the sips. But they got gifted an easy schedule to help them through it and their QB only missed a couple games. They also had a super experienced OLine to lessen the effects of their RB injuries.

Marcel Reed beat LSU going something like 2/2 passing. I would NOT consider our offense pass heavy last year. Granted one of those two was like a 70 yard back breaker but still.

I would expect every DC we play against to sell out to stop the run and dare Reed to pass until he proves he can be consistently effective throwing the ball against their scheme.
