I'm starting to think the Women's basketball natty in 2011 was just a glitch in the matrix.

There is zero chance we'd ever beat UT Dallas!

I don't believe in such nonsense (about this lobby you have to wait in before entering Heaven), but I no longer seek self fulfillment from A&M sports. Now family and self challenging pursuits are where its at.

The worst thing about that is that they let Blair go out on his own terms, after running the program into the ground. A&M should have told him to retire a few years before that.

I am very open to an honest conversation about our successes and disappointments. However, a hyperbolic thread like this only serves one purpose. It is to disparage our university and its athletics department. People like this are trying to influence the recruits that visit this site. Over and over and over again this is allowed to happen. I wish this would change.

Winning women's basketball (or softball), while nice, doesn't really matter..

The only two that really matter for bragging rights are mens basketball and football... And for those- we have NEVER made it to the playoffs for football and never made even elite 8 for basketball.

Sad and pathetic for a school of our size, resources and alumni support.

Partially because our main 2 suck- our fan base has adopted others like baseball and softball to brag about... But even in the those - A&M has choked big time in year after year... We even retired the jersey of a baseball coach here for over a decade who won zilch in Omaha. Put that in perspective.. The same or more resources than any other school in baseball (save maybe LSU? couple others, maybe?) and we are retiring the jersey of the coach who didn't win **** in Omaha.

And even women's basketball- the one second tier sport to actually get over the top- has became a complete dumpster fire after the win and didn't build a sustainable program to now.

Loser culture.

And this may have kept Vic from going to Austin, but no. What you just laid out HJF is a symptom of why winning doesn't happen here.

The athletics department reaps what it sows. Recruits will go where the money is, that is what most of them care about most of all.

It's like the TV show "The Good Place". It's really hell but they throw out a few things perceived as good but are not really satisfying.

Hyperbolic? WTF are you talking about. We haven't won anything of significance in nearly 100 years. You're part of the problem.

The purgatory line is quoting a post from Texas dipsh*** Kyle Umlaung about the softball team.

A&M needs a massive overhaul. We aren't likable.

We are Mississippi State 2.0 with more money.

We're not even Mississippi State, which won a baseball national title in 2021. That's how bad we are.

While this is true. I would love to hear people's reasoning here on texags. I'm willing to bet the following

1. Many will debate that we're loved because visiting fans said blah blah blah
2. Reasons will be stated that are off base

The Aggie Cheerleading Team won the national championship last year. Same ones we don't allow near our sidelines because we prefer turds in white milk man uniforms.

Just manage your own expectations.

7-5 every year is what I expect. So I am rarely disappointed. Occasionally, I am pleased when we are slightly better.

The athletic department prioritizes revenue and profit over winning. They are content with mediocre finishes as long as they have a strong financial outlook. Until the athletic department stops accepting mediocrity, we won't win anything meaningful in one of the Big 3 college sports. I have learned to expect mediocrity and hope for excellence.

Football: Since winning the Big 12 in 1998, we have lost 4+ games in 24 of 26 years, and the only exceptions were when we finished 11-2 (6-2 SEC) in 2012 and 9-1 (8-1 SEC) in 2020. We have never made a playoff appearance, and the closest we came was in 2020.

Men's Basketball: We have never even reached the elite 8 and have not reached the Sweet 16 since 2018.

Baseball: We have reached the College World Series 8 times in 1951, 1964, 1993, 1999, 2011, 2017, 2022, 2024, but we have never won the national championship. The closest we came was losing 6-5 to Tennessee in Game 3 of the College World Series Final.

I can't imagine there is a school other than A&M that has spent this much money with worse results. There really is no excuse. We have a very supportive huge fanbase, tons of money and zero results in the last 50 years outside of women's basketball.

State and Ole Miss have won a NC in a major sport more recently than we have.

We aren't even in their level.

Baylol won a NC. Freaking Baylol. We literally aren't even them in results.

I've mostly quit following Aggie sports this year. Their results bring only disappointment, no enjoyment any more. Yay, we best NMST by 21. Woopdedoo. We get waxed by SC and a horrible Auburn team. Our #1 baseball team is basically worst in the SEC.

Typical A&M sports results.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

At least with purgatory you eventually get to heaven; hell is eternal. After 40 years of bashing my head against this wall, I'm starting to think it's the latter.
Seriously you would think after so much money, top level facilities, supposed top level coaches, etc. it would eventually come together for us in something, if nothing else through blind luck.
Rec
How long do you want to ignore this user?
And just think… if we won a NC our lives would be so much better like the alumni from all the schools mentioned above. In fact, with all of Bamas football success, the Alabama people are the happiest, most financially secure, well adjusted, and satisfied people in the world.
