Another "Old School" question from me, killing time until the Utah game...

While you were at school, what player that A&M lined up against did you worry about the most before the game?

For me, it was Eric Metcalf of Texas in the late 80s.

Even though we never lost to Texas during his time there, he seemed like the only offensive (and special teams) threat they had, and a couple of games I thought he would beat us by himself.

I'll go a step further with Tech and say Welker was the one I feared the most. That guy single handedly beat us in 02.

I was thinking Metcalf, also. But, it was fun to watch him.

As much as I hate to admit it - Zach Thomas. He (and a certain referee) certainly found a way to spoil our season in '95 or was it '96? The dreaded interception at Jones in the last minute or so of the game.

Eventhough I wasn't at A&M yet, I still went to the games with my dad, and I'd have to choose James Brown, Zebby Lethridge & that Hart guy WR from itt, that Muhammed guy from Baylor at WR, and Mike Adams/Lovell Pinkney. None of these guys were that great, but they were just squirrely(sp) and would run around about one takle away from breaking a long one.

For 1 single game, it has to be hands down Bo Jackson in the Cotton Bowl. Every time he touched the ball, I though he was going to score. He was that good.

Early 90's -- TT Lloyd Hill led the SWC in passing yards and receptions!

Bert Emanuel at Rice. No Rice wasn't going to beat us, but that guy kept them in games they didn't deserve to be in. He kept them in the 1993 game down in Houston for the entire first quarter. he lead two convincing scoring drives for 10 points that were effectively countered by 2 TD returns on the ensuing kickoffs. Were it not for Leeland McElroy we might have been down 10-0 early in the game. That guy was a superb athlete on a poor team and we had to change our defense that day to contain him. He would have had a field day against most of our last 8 defenses and they might have beaten us.

Ty Detmer scared me, until we separated both of his shoulders. Leading up to this game, I remember the press about how great BYU was, and how they were offended that they didn't get a better bowl opponent than lowly old Texas A&M. It made the victory that much sweeter. And while I never like to see players injured, it was nice that we knocked the everliving crap out of Detmer after all of their trash talk.

Not many since I was there 92-95, but I guess I would say James Brown.

This is a very interesting topic. And I can't for the life of me come up with a name. Bo? Meet Mr. Holland. Ty? Have a seat over here next to Quentin. Eric? Small, overrated.

I was wary of Baylor in 1986 with Carlson and Teaff. Not that I thought we'd lose, but they made you uncomfortable. Little did I know how great that game would turn out...

I don't remember fearing any opposing player. I think it was more other teams fearing our players Wallace, Coryatt, Roper, W.Thomas, Bucky, D.Lewis etc. back then.

Eric Metcalf hands down. That guy made your heart stope every time he touched the ball. We had the superior team back then, but he still put the fear in you.

Glad we didn't have to play Bo 4 times or he would be tied with Earl.
