But in the end it matters not what some random dudes rank a player: whether they put 4, 5 or 0 stars next to him, he's still the player he is

Roughly half of high school 5* football players don't get drafted. There is a built in acknowledgement that being a 5* means you have a lot of potential, but there is no guarantee. Once a player has some college tape (or lack thereof if he cannot make the 2-deep), there is more information about his likelihood of being a bust. That is why transfer portal rankings are updated from their high school values. Most kids in the transfer portal are there because they did not meet expectations, so their rankings will go down. The few exceptions seem to be those that already have a deal with a new school before entering the portal.

Judging or rating a player based on their true freshman season is absurd

Even worse considering Hudson did more than most true fish not to mention the injury so thinking he looked bad for a fish makes the whole idea even more ridiculous
