Ole Miss and SC should both be above Bama.

SMU is going to be screwed also if they don't beat Clemson.

I really like South Carolina, but you're going to lose just about every argument when you claim they should be over two teams that they lost to. In no way are they getting screwed. Where they got screwed was that LSU game?

I think SMU is getting in unless they get blown out by Clinton

Hard to move either one ahead of a team who has beaten both H2H with the same W-L record.

MIAMI is the team with a real beef. The committee will do anything to get Bama in because #Bama.

Meantime we have the very real possibility of a three-loss ACC champion...? If this happens, look for the SEC to begin pushing to add a stipulation that any conference champ must be ranked in the top 15 to be considered for a seed in the first place, regardless of potential byes. Then they'd get in five teams, and the argument would be that the playoffs should not allow mediocre teams.

Just wait for the year when a four-loss team wins its conference title (two OOC losses, two IC losses, still gets in and wins its CG).

Seems like 12 teams should be enough, but still not right. SC is playing as well as anybody right now. There isn't any other team in the proposed group of 12 that would want to face them.

If you think our game was fixed by the refs, imagine how hard they'll be working to ensure Clemson's big name gets into the playoff instead of SMU.

In what world should SC be above Bama? Sure they are playing well right now, but they got beat by LSU, Bama, and Ole Miss. Ole Miss beat UGA, but their losses are real bad-Kentucky, Florida, and a very average LSU.

Miami has no beef

They've beaten no one of consequence, barely squeaking by bad teams and then losing to mediocre to bad teams

They are right where they should be

Yeah, this is probably right. It's just hard to overlook how well they have been playing. It's why the chase for a National Champion seems hollow. Some teams that went through a rough patch but are playing at an elite level towards the end of the season will get excluded. But, if there is an argument that your team is not in the top 12 in the country, it's hard to have too much of a beef.

I agree

South Carolina should be in over Bama.

Better team

And they were screwed by officials in their game against LSU. Truly affected the result.

And FYI, Sankey decides this one. Not the silly committee.

Two years in a row Sankey put Bama in the playoff.

All that being said. Bama beat USC and that matters. You have to use head to head.

USC/LSU game though was total BS. Everyone knows this and this is why they should be above Bama. But no way Sankey would do that one.

This. If the SEC officials were even remotely competent, SCar being in wouldn't even be a discussion

There's a clear delineation in this league between the teacher's pets and the "back row kids"

Thread is proof there is no number of playoff teams that will avoid some people think someone got screwed.

That's the thing, SC might currently be playing better, but Bama has the better overall body of work. If you can only put in one, which deserves it more? The whole season needs to be looked at, not just last 4 or so games.

I mean if they can't beat Clemson, do they need to be in the playoff?

True. This is a lot better than having a discussion about the top 4

Problem is, outside of a pretty clear #1 in Oregon there's not a ton of difference between 2-15. There just aren't any "OMG they're a contender" teams. Whole lotta meh this year. Anybody's beatable.

Didn't get a 2pt conversion to tie the game, recovered an on-side kick, lost time when OL caught tipped pass, and INT at end. On the INT there was an open WR at the first down marker that could have reached close to FG range

One last kill for Hilary.

Edit - didn't finish the thread.

If SMU loses to Clemson, they absolutely should be out of the playoffs. They have had a very easy schedule and in my opinion are very overrated. If they beat Clemson, they deserve to be in, but I suspect they will lose.

9-3 (5-3 SEC) South Carolina won 3 road games at 4-8 (1-7 SEC) Kentucky, 6-6 (2-6 SEC) Oklahoma, and 6-6 (3-5 SEC) Vanderbilt by a combined score of 94-22. In contrast, Ole Miss lost to Kentucky 20-17 at home on 9/28, and Alabama lost at Vanderbilt 40-35 on 10/5 and at Oklahoma 24-3 on 11/23. Yet, both Alabama and Ole Miss are ranked ahead of South Carolina, probably because they both beat South Carolina. Ole Miss throttled South Carolina 27-3 on the road on 10/5 when South Carolina was coming off a bye week. In contrast, Alabama escaped with a 27-25 home win over South Carolina on 10/12. Nevertheless, South Carolina has won 6 consecutive games, including an 18-15 road win over Clemson last Saturday.

Yet, 9-3 (5-3 SEC) Alabama is ranked ahead of 10-2 (6-2 ACC) Miami because Miami lost 2 of its last 3 games. In contrast, 9-3 (6-2 ACC) Clemson can make the playoffs by simply beating 11-1 (8-0 ACC) Clemson in the ACC Championship Game.

SC doesn't have a strong argument, as much as I would like to see them get a shot.

Should be Ole Miss or Miami over Bama.

Notre Dame hosting Bama in the first round is too much viewership for the CFP to pass up.

It will never be enough. You will always have teams crying that they had a better case than others.

In this case, SCAR lost the head to head. There's no overcoming that.

And Bama lost to Vandy and got skull drug by OU - unranked OU!

Also, the SC loss to LSU was an absolute ref screw job!

First, I think SMU wins.
Second, I don't think so. Unless they are blown out which won't happen.

That said committee, as per norm, is all over board. At first a loss in championship won't hurt you, then the other night they suggest maybe it could…so who really knows what they will do.

I think if SMU lost the easy answer is that knocks Bama out and you move on.
Nothing looks more foolish than tradition to those who have none.

What happens if Boise loses?

I am guessing the committee will put SMU in regardless, that is one of their Cinderella stories.

No team with 2+ losses has any complaint for not making the playoffs.

How is SMU not already in? They are undefeated in the ACC. I was pretty sure that media indicated teams would not penalized for conference championship games. They have two wins vs ranked teams.

Really don't understand how Penn State and IU are ranked so high. Get a really weak schedule. Lose to one ranked team and your in. Huh?

I would bet Bama over SC and Ole Miss. Both beat SC and Bama has more TVs.

When did they say a conference championship game loss won't hurt you?

Everyone keeps claiming this, but no one can ever provide a link. Do you have one?
