Frustrated with HOW we went 8-4.

8-4 in year 1 isn't inherently disappointing; it's HOW it happened.
7-1 (5-0) after the LSU game, sole position of 1st in the SEC. And we proceed to drop all three SEC games in November to finish 8-4 (5-3). Auburn loss is infuriating.

Literally win ONE of SC, Auburn, and Texas and we're playing in Atlanta. Couldn't do it. After the LSU game, I truly thought 10-2 was the floor; Auburn and NM State were going to be wins, and we'd win at least one of Texas and SC.

Maybe losing Moss really exposed a thin offense that was patched together with duct tape. But it's become apparent that Missouri and LSU aren't as good as we thought, so maybe this team just didn't have it. I'm not going to discount the Florida win though- that was a good road win against a decent team.

Had 4 built in wins

Tell me what's exciting about 8-4?

We just need to get used to the fact that A&M is a perennial 8-4 team.

We have double digit wins every 10 years. 2020 and 2012 are the outliers and not regularities. 2020 was COVID and stadiums were half empty and 2012 we had a generational talent.

I have accepted the fact that we will have a great performance once a year, but will not sustain those results for an entire season.

Still proud to be an Aggie but won't fool myself into thinking we will ever be Bama or Georgia no matter what.

Well 3 of those 8's were out of conference highschools.

You underestimate the Elmo impact and culture change.

Defense & offense is definitely on a decline while penalties and attitudes are leading the way downward l.

Only cost us $80MM...

.

Actually, historically I believe we are not quite a 8-4 . We average like 7.6 wins per 12 games played.

We secured a winning SEC record for just the 4th time in 13 years in the SEC by staring 5-0 in SEC games, but we ended the season with 3 consecutive SEC losses. Hopefully, we will win our bowl game to finish 9-4 (5-3 SEC). A loss in our subsequent bowl game would mean finishing 8-5 and 4 consecutive losses to Power 4 teams. Our only win in our last 5 games would be over New Mexico State after a 7-1 (5-0 SEC) start. That would be similar to 2016 when we started 6-0 (4-0 SEC and 5-0 Power 5) only to lose 5 of our last 7 games, and our only two wins in that span were in cupcake games against New Mexico State ant UTSA. We lost our last 4 SEC games and our last 5 Power 4 games, including a 33-28 loss to Kansas State in the Texas Bowl.

Oh… it just looked there was a modicum of hope after the LSU game.

Turns out, they suck, as does Missouri.

Losing to Auburn was the real kick in the knackers

this was a weird season

we'll know tomorrow where A&M finishes the regular season nationally in total defense, total offense, scoring defense, and scoring offense

but the Ags are basically middle of the pack in all 4 categories -- very, very average in all areas

yet with a bowl win could reach 9 wins for only the 6th in the past 25 years -- which is a significant accomplishment believe it or not for the program

It cost everyone that lives in Texas something. How's that property tax bill looking this year? The cost is in there, its just not itemized.

Yet far above average in talent. That's the infuriating part.

I probably gave Reed more doubt than I should have, but it was clear the LSU game was an anomaly. We scored a ****load point with only two passing attempts and most of this board fell in love with him.

I think the past few games have proven that Reed could be very good, but has also proven that LSU probably should have been a loss. We have an immense amount of ground to cover

I said a few weeks ago…

The difference between 10-2 and 8-4 is…
- stop the run (learn to set the edges)
- don't get beat over the top
- no turnovers
- pass well enough to open up the running game

BTHO Auburn!!!… and tu forever!!!

8-4 is what I expected. I expected to lose to Notre Dame, Missouri, LSU, and Texas. LSU and Missouri turned out to be worse than expected, but we did beat them. South Carolina turned out better than expected and we lost. Auburn sucks, so that was an embarrassing loss.

The record was what I expected. I guess I am a little disappointed because we lost to one bad team.

Not bad for Elko's first year, but nothing special, especially given the schedule was weaker than normal.

here we go...

team stat rankings at the end of the regular season:

A&M is #64 in total defense -- yards per game allowed

A&M is #31 in scoring defense -- points allowed per game

A&M is #52 in total offense

A&M is #48 in scoring offense

9 wins won't happen. A&M will be paired up against a team that has an extreme match up advantage against our weakness. I'm predicting a B12 team to embarrass us again.
